Really, nobody's talking about this:
http://www.crossfit.com/mt-archive2/008614.html
Tuesday 121009
Three rounds for time of:
45 pound GHD Bench press, 15 reps
25 Back extensions
Run 800 meters
Of course, it raises the important question of which is more functional -- bench press on the GHD or push-ups weighted with bumper plates stacked on your back and kook balls hanging from your chest.

Come back with something worth talking about... like a sex scandal happening in the new plane. That would be cool.

Re: The couch thread
The "Anthos and Crossfit Documents" blog is going strong.
Crossfit and Laura are trading motions (documents linked in post). Laura is arguing Greg couldn't afford the plane on his own so he switched to Crossfit money to get it. Crossfit argues they were going to buy the plane all along and had already done so. Unfortunately they got their dates a little mixed up, because Crossfit HQ didn't step in to try to buy the plane until a day after the restraining order was submitted. To the confusion of Cirrus themselves:
Crossfit has a lawsuit against Anthos for "tortious interference". The claim is hilarious and repeats the complaints that despite Lauren's 50% ownership her release of financial documents to Anthos is illegal. Or something.
The third latest and favorite post covers Greg's recent purchase of a $350,000 car:
How does he buy a $350,000 car last year and can't afford a $300,000 plane this year? Or perhaps he blew his money on the car and is dipping into the Crossfit coffers to get the plane?

Copy of emails here, dated July 26th--restraining order submitted the 25th.According to the documents produced by Cirrus Aircraft, the aircraft’s manufacturer, it appears to be their understanding that Mr. Glassman – not CrossFit – was purchasing the aircraft. It was only after Plaintiff commenced this action that Cirrus learned that the purchase was being made by CrossFit. (Ex. F (“The problem I see is this; All the previous documentation had Greg Glassman as the buyer. Now the letter attached specifically is from CrossFit and is on their stationary. That will be a rub and in direct conflict with the letter we received. Can you call Ken and discuss the discrepancy? I'm pretty sure that if it is a CrossFit purchase, we can't proceed. And, if it's a personal purchase we might be able to.”))

The third latest and favorite post covers Greg's recent purchase of a $350,000 car:
Car has its own webpage for those interested.Part of CrossFit's argument to intercede in Lauren and Greg's divorce is that the company can obtain financing in order to make a cash offer to equal the Anthos offer, as seen here previously. This would presumably take the form of some sort of loan secured against the CrossFit itself. We question, however, Greg Glassman financial management skills and hence his ability to service such a loan given his spending habits. Here is his latest ride: A 1500 HP Camero with Lambo doors, 24" wheels, custom interior described as "Completely un-drivable due to lack of traction/handling" by those who have driven it. Price: $350,000
from car website wrote:Sneak peek 2011 Camaro project "Black Dog" being built here at Lamb Chevy Cadillac by our technicians, LSX 427ci with twin turbos by Beck Racing Engines, Unbelievable power! 1480hp 1350 ft lbs torque @12psi boost after chassis dyno tuning at A.D.S. , Upgraded auto transmission and 3000rpm stall converter, Billy Boat sport exhaust with custom headers, steel wide body kit, 24" Asanti wheels, Recaro seats and custom interior by Arizona Suntops, Strange Engineering 9" rear differential with upgraded halfshafts and driveshaft, Baer GS brakes, Eibach adjustable coilovers, Hotchkiss adjustable stabilizers front and rear and much more. Not even a week ago I was trolling her feed, telling her her legs and ass were too skinny, and that she needed barbell squats, and then today I see that.

I keep in touch with the guy who owns the @fit gym I started at. Nice guy and a non-cultist, just a businessman. He lets me come in to do some barbell work. And although he doesn't have any porn stars (that I know of), the demographics have shifted.
1st- There's only a handful of people still training there from 4 years ago yet his membership remains relatively constant between 125-150 people, so turnover is as high as a "regular" gym.
2nd- All the cops, firemen, MMA wannabes and recently discharged military types are gone. Replaced with middle aged, middle management types, real fatties trying to find the magic skinny elixir and a mix of young and middle aged MILFs and not so MILFy.
With at least 30 Xfits within 30 miles, and more scheduled to open, the saturation point can't be too far away. Downward pressure on pricing is just starting as boxes are starting to reach out to different groups (teachers, etc) with steep discounts.

Glasscock orders Lauren and Anthos to disclose private communications about the deal, motion here.
The message board postings have not gone unnoticed:
Airing the private financial grievances of your company on a public message board is a good, professional idea!
The message board postings have not gone unnoticed:
In the motion he cites the Two Stooges campaign by the Russells started here.Motion wrote:I must also consider, however, the risk that the Defendants might use the information sought through discovery to obtain an unfair advantage outside of this litigation in another manner. Since this litigation began, CrossFit has been waging a public campaign against Anthos' attempts to buy an equity stake in CrossFit
. . . .
Defendants' counsel assured me at oral argument that the materials sought are for litigation purposes only, and that under no circumstances will CrossFit or Mr. Glassman use confidential information obtained through this litigation to attempt to further turn the CrossFit community against a potential deal between Ms. Glassman and Anthos. I will take Defendants' counsel at his word, and I conclude that the risk of improper non-litigation use of the discovery sought is insufficient to invoke the business-strategy immunity. Let me add, however, that if I were to discover that the Defendants are using this information to gain a business advantage outside this litigation, I would not hesitate to redress that situation.

A tepid defense of CF I pondered whilst getting drunk on Ambien during a layover at O'Hare. Just sticking to the program for a year allows Cf'ers to make at least half the mistakes necessary to provoke a learning response. While most of us were able to accomplish that level of idiocy with a either a McDojo membership or a copy of Muscle and Fitness, these new kids get to grind through their stupidity with decent equipment at the very least. Really, it is a crash course in wrong.
I cannot lie...I've been running into solid second generation CF boxes who do actual programming, pay particular care to avoid injuries and serve their client's needs. Rather than deflating my reflexive hate, it makes me pine for truckloads of toluene soaked rags to lite the other 85% of CF boxes on fire.

Re: The couch thread
A little dude joined Celli's just about a year ago. Typical guy, late 20's, pudgy, weak. He came to work out, improve his physique, get in shape- pretty-much what most normal people "work out" hoping to accomplish.
He had heard about a local Tough Mudder race, and entered it. Not long after, he spoke to Ryan and I about how to train for it. He was advised to run regularly, do simple barbell training exercises on a progression that was good enough, but wouldn't interfere too much with the running, and mobility work.
And he didn't stick to it -SHOCKER- ...
But he did do the race, and he survived it.
Anyway, saw him at the gym on Monday, I was talking with Ryan and he came in, advising Ryan he wouldn't be renewing his membership, because he wanted to work out someplace that was more conducive "to doing stuff that would help him get better at running races and obstacle courses."
Ostensibly, one of the local CrossFit boxes.
I don't get it- he can run the distance between his apartment, and the gym to get there, and do sprint intervals on the treadmill with it cranked-up all the way if he wants to (that's not frowned upon). He can use the platform for cleans and high pulls, and he can do duelling-ropes and sandbag carries. There's even rings... And of course, lots of iron and bars. And kettlebells. All at a whopping $42/month. He can even get a strength program written-up for him by a world-class lifter who's got over 20 years experience...
BUT NO- none of that will help him get better at running Tough Mudders; CrossFit totally will!
What a moron.
And apparently this happens a lot. A lot of so-called "new kids" seem to want to:
It doesn't make sense to me at all.

Circuses are fun. Why go to physics class when you can have a birthday party? And who doesn't feel like a badass when its expected that they will catastrophically injure themselves in the first six months. Its called "paying your dues" and all elite exercisers know that's the price to pay for exercising with other elite exercisers. I mean really, who doesn't want to exercise elitely?

Bravado like that finds its way into the Jiu Jitsu school occasionally. They never show up for their second week to sign up. EVER.
An it isn't even like they get worked-over that hard, either. It's more that just "not being able to get it right away" and still having to work hard, despite that, is a massive blow to their ego.
I guess CF is different in the sense that I get the distinct impression that, by and large, "knowing what you're doing" (or even "why you're doing it") just isn't that important.
