The thing is, we frequently miss having a pick-up and I've had one more often than not over the past 20 years (we go through a lot of vehicles in this household). The mid-size offerings that are out there these days are nearly as pricey as their Bogatir-sized big bros, so there's not much economy in buying the smaller trucks from what I can tell.bennyonesix wrote:I looked at trucks 5 years ago and now I laugh at how much fuckers pay to be part of the bad boy club.

Pickups are America. Have you ever tried putting atlas stones in an Accord? it's terrible.
Haven't driven anything but a PU for the last 15 years. I have three. This is my fav but no longer a daily driver, store it in a barn where it belongs. 59 Apache Chief, has a top speed of 70 with power nothing and Am radio only.

I haven't driven the current C63, but I've driven several of the previous generation with the supercharged V8. It was based on the 272/273 engine design. The new one is based on the 276/278 engine, I assume, but twin turbos instead of the supercharger.Shapecharge wrote:Alfred give me your opinion on the C AMG S. What kind of maintenance would a guy be looking at over 4 years. MB unlike BMW doesn't want to kick in free scheduled maintenace. Are there issues with any of the AMG vehicles someone should know?
For usual finance length, figure alternating A and B services every 10k miles. A will be a basic oil change and inspection, run you about $150. B would be a more major service including engine/cabin filters, maybe a brake or power steering flush, that kind of thing. Figure $300 for that, plus parts/fluids. Not cheap, but if you stay on top of them Mercs are as dog tough as any car I've ever seen. The basic mechanicals of the engine are as close to bullet proof as you can get.
One extra to pay for with every B service, or at least ever other B service (40k miles) would be a trans flush and filter change. They claim that the new fluids are "lifetime" fluids. Nope. And they run the same *basic* transmission in all the cars. The clutching is different for the hypercars, but the guts are pretty much the same across the board. Says a lot about how tough the trans is, but I'd change the fluid whether they recommend it or not if I'm running 500 HP in the same unit that the 300 HP models run.
Where you run into trouble with MB is with all the gizmos they put into the cars, like Active Body Control suspension and the like. If you're a drive it till the warranty is up and trade it in kind of guy, you should be fine. But I've seen a $10k bill for not that much work on a hydraulic suspension system in cars less than a decade old. Bottom line is DO NOT NEGLECT the little things and it will do your right. Let a few small problems propagate and they can be a bank account monster. That's one of the reasons they have such a high depreciation.

Glad to hear you are a fan of the "flush and fill" on the tranny fluid.
I do that on my Mazda and that fluid is not pristine by any means after 40k miles.
EDIT
Drain and fill

Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk.
I live in Montana and want a solid off-road vehicle. Any fancy-dancy vehicle that I can't take offf-road, I don't want. Of course, there are Land Rovers and Land Cruisers and Jeep Grand Cherokees. All $60,000 to $120,000. And I don't want to take a vehicle that cost that much off the road.
Enter my new car, the Jeep Cherokee. Less that $40,000 with leather seats (with warmers and coolers and every damn bell and whistle you want. Or maybe don't.) I've had this car since late December, and it's done everything I want. Off-road in snow and mud. On road for long road trips. Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. The one in this video is the same one I own.
Maybe I'm one of the only guys here who has the exact vehicle he wants.

I need a truck. I haul shit. I haul bales of fucking hay and alfalfa in the back of my goddamn Ford Flex, which has a 150K miles on it and feels like it. I had to pay someone to evacuate my fucking horse during the flooding recently, because I had no truck. I had to rent a fucking truck to go pick up some furniture I bought.
Plus I live in Texas. And don't have to haul 6 passengers around anymore

Yes, Shaf, you need a truck.
Re: So let's talk about cars...homos & transgens welcome
Truck prices are basically all lies from what I can tell - yeah, MSRP is $35k but 9 months out of the year are TRUCK MONTH!!!! and will knock a huge chunk off. Unfortunately, even with that discount they're too fucking expensive for a goddamn truck.
My last truck was a Ram 1500 quad cab, I got it with power windows and locks and basically no other options for $18k in late 2008 - I actually wanted a Toyota Tacoma but they were all optioned to the gills and started in the mid-20k range.
The current Chevy Colorado mid-size is the same size as an '90s Chevy 1500 from what I can tell. That shit's crazy. I've got the itch for another pickup, but I'm either going to get a late '90s Ranger w/ V6 or early '90s C1500 w/ 350. Preferably no power options to stop working and a vinyl bench.

The TBI 88-95 GM Trucks are pretty damn resilient. I have a GM Sierra from that era and it's been great.milosz wrote:early '90s C1500 w/ 350. Preferably no power options to stop working and a vinyl bench.

Re: So let's talk about cars...homos & transgens welcome
i've got an '04 ranger 4 wd, manual with roll-up windows. reliable and doesn't bog down on hills around here. ford is no longer making the ranger, so not sure what comes next, but a small truck meets most of my hauling needs, and fuel costs aren't excessive.
for those special occasions, i've also got an '04 f-350 4wd , dually, 7.3l diesel 1-ton dump.
fuck, yeah.

Uhh guys I appreciate your utilitarian, spartan mindset but a 30 year old truck with rust spots big enough to throw a cat through is not going to help. I need something that best represents my low T, receding hairline, and those weird brown spots that are showing up everywhere. So let's get back on target please.

If so, you may want to look at the G wagon instead of the C63

Kuckle(head)...this Focus you speak of...will it help me score some pussy? No, unless I hang around the local high school. Wait, this is worth considering. I'm not thinking straight...I'm hopped up on dubious growth hormone releasers and a handful of 5-Hour Energy drinks.
