Showing Love vs. Showing Off

Post by Bram »

Over Christmas, I spent a week with family.

Each day, I noticed family members showing love in their own unique way. Paying for dinner. Making a pot of coffee to share. Giving hugs.

At some point, I noticed I had my own way too. I'd make light-hearted jokes, or be thoughtful: listening attentively; refilling a water glass; giving a back rub if someone looked worn out.

Last night, I attended a New Age event.

It was super mellow, with about thirty people broken into small groups. One for tea, one for cacao, another for a journaling exercise.

In one, I watched the conversation work it's way around the circle. When it got to this one dude, he went off! Opening his heart, quantum physics, journaling, his job, a decades-old breakup, how every day he's dating a new beautiful woman. I'm sure I'm forgetting some subjects my man covered. By the time he finished, nearly everyone had got up and left.

Of course, I do this shit too! I just didn't in this particular conversation.

It's Monday morning and I'm going to try only showing love this week.

At the very least, attempting to do is an interesting concept :)

How do you show love?
