I think Rob Shaul at militaryathlete is training some guy for the games as well.

Re: The couch thread
I think the only problem with people that don't do @fit telling others how to train for the @fit games is that they have no idea what it takes to prepare for a shitshow like that.
As impressive as Chad Smith is, and he is, he never did @fit and probably never had a client who was in the gaymes.
Not saying they can't do it at all, just saying I think its a bit out of reach to tell others how to do it when they never competed in a single @fit event.
Its not like strongman, PL or track and field where the events are known and you prepare specifically for them and you have rest periods, standard time or distance units, etc.. In the gaymes, as we know, you have max effort stuff, some 20 minute events and maybe some other stupidity thrown in where you can't really prepare... so you could be an 11 second 100 sprinter, pull a max DL of 650 and be able to bust out 20 muscle ups in a row and still lose because you lose out to some jackass who is 50 pounds lighter because he has better endurance or gets lucky on some retarded event like shoveling shit for time when you never picked up a shovel in your life...

Re: The couch thread
There is no point in training for the Crossfit Games when the organizers can decide what events you're going to do right before you do them. What's to prevent them from creating a final workout designed to snub one particular competitor that they don't like? Given the serious lack of professionalism at CF HQ that's definitely not out of the question. Or what's to prevent them from completely changing up their priorities of what they consider "fitness"? Last year it was softballs, this year it could be hula hoops. There is no human that will be better than everyone at all things, so that "be prepared for anything" mantra is bull.
Announce the events 6 months in advance and it might have a chance of being a worthy competition. Until then, you might as well train to win the lottery.

Re: The couch thread
A whole cottage industry has sprung up of coaches who prep athletes for the NFL combine. And it sounds like some coaches are getting $$$ in their eyes at the idea of charging Games competitors for training them for the big weekend.
But what happens when, as Jay and Kreator pointed out, a bunch of fucked-up shit happens and your protege doesn't even make it to the Games, or DNFs or just plain makes an ass out of themselves? Try again next year?
It seems like a ballsy way to build your resume and cred as a trainer.

Re: The couch thread
Look for the events to be rigged in favor of whoever has the most marketing appeal for R@@bok.

maybe they will have to change in and out of 12 different @bok outfits, for time

Re: The couch thread
Furthermore, why is Chad Smith tainting his reputation at ALL by even mentioning the word @fit on his webpage?
He is a champion shotputter, owner of one of the best raw squats in America, trains truly elite level athletes, has "the thinker" under his roof and is a great guy...
I think he needs to stay away from @fit and let those idiots deal with themselves.

I agree Jay, but....the money that is @F has corrupted the likes of Burdick and Bell. It's free money to them.
The rigging of the games, both at the regional and final level is a distinct possibility, and it's certainly been seen at the regional level.

Perception > competence
Why train a bunch of broke-ass college genetic .1%ers to improve in a measurable sport when you can market to the top third of exercises who are willing to dole out thousands of dollars to take a few kicks at a moving goalpost? Suck it, DeFranco!

I see the point of his article and maybe it will bring him more revenue which at the end of the day is the bottom line.

Scott Abel takes a shot:
The Nonsense That is CrossfitCrossfit is dangerous because it crosses too many lines and violates too many principles as it does so. You would have to be a true expert I guess to understand this - Because it seems so obvious to other true experts. You cannot adapt methods in any single area of training and not adhere to their principles. And this requires a deeper understanding of human form and function beyond certain exercises and what they do. Program design DEMANDS an understanding of the principles of exercises physiology. This necessitates an understanding of energy systems, how they work and the adaptations they induce/produce. It requires an understanding of the various types of strength – aerobic/anaerobic – functional strength, functional expression, speed strength, limit strength, explosive strength, kinetic chain expression, starting strength. Each one of these adheres to ‘principles of adaptation’ within their implementation.

Yeap. Rob Shaul is a faggot.Shafpocalypse Now wrote:Rob Shaul can eat a dick, though.
Rigging a comp for a specific competitor isn't anything new. I seem to remember a bit of controversy over Mark Henry winning the Arnold Strongman. Seems it was put out that the folks who set it up did it specifically to favor his big black ass.

Could you point me a link in the right direction to get more information about this?

Thanks Scott, I love hearing the last echoing cries of a dying breed.
If I didn't understand CF, sucked at teaching it's movements, and was helpless to stop its success... what would I do? I'd probably post fairly meaningless rants about how unorthodox and dangerous it was too.
What is your definition of Fitness Scott? Do you have one? How do you measure it if you do?

Abel is jacked as all fuck. And has maintained higher muscle mass and lower bodyfat longer than most Crossfitters have been alive. Yeah, hey, sure, he's had help, but so have they.

HQ has a Pukie The Clown sockpuppet that's running all over facebook flaming anyone who disagrees with HQ.
His hit and run on Abel's Facebook page is especially classy.

Would love to see those @fit jabronis ask Scott Abel in person to define fitness. LOL.

Is that Pukie a HQ sockpuppet. Looks like it plays with Drywall and other Crossfit marginalists nicely. Ah...I see, the Email is a hq email.

Re: The couch thread
If they base their argument on their definition of "fitness," then they have to defend the person who CREATED the definition: Greg Glassman.
That is hard to do, and something Reebokfit has avoided completely so far.
It does liven things up around here though.
