This guy doesn't realize how much he is against @fit. He states himself that specific work in an event will make somebody better than someone who doesn't specifically work on it. Hmmm, wonder where that bullshit idea came from....Michael Wengloski wrote:I completely disagree. CF prepares us for the unknown. Why is swimming "too technique dependent" while snatches are fine? I could argue all snatching proves is who was on a weightlifting team in high school, all running does is prove who did cross country. If the world's fittest athlete can't make it across a 50m pool without drowning I would argue otherwise.

Re: The couch thread
A flaw in your argument...@F is the mothereffing military! Don't forget that. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that a single battalion of @F's elite athletes armed with nothing but their tribal tats, faux hawks, board shorts, and perhaps a piece of PVC could single-handedly wipe out the entire US military. It's only by the good graces of Cooch that our military is left standing, choosing instead to let his warriors battle it out with pullups and wallball shots.Fish wrote:Pretty cool event. It could destroy those people that have never lifted anything besides a barbell though. 70 pounds total is bitch weight though, so that will make it easier. Shit, a bag of cement usually weighs 60 pounds, I bet somebody who was done labor intensive work or someone in the military would annhilate @fitters at this one.Event 3 - The Sandbag Hill Sprint
The men will pick up two 35lb sandbags (loosely packed) and sprint approximately 170m uphill. The sandbags begin flat on the ground. The sprint is steep in places, with approximately 100' in elevation gain over the 170m course. Women carry one 35lb sandbag for the same course.
They may not have thought this far out, but the stake driving event actually solves an inherent problem of sledgehammer-the-tire training. When going for time, few will put real effort into the hammer swings, instead making sure to get the required number without giving too much effort. Having to hammer a stake in 4' will actually force them to put their effort into it.Fish wrote:Pretty gay event. It will be good for the big guys though, and again, it just seems like something that you would do at work. The fancy pants @fitters would get wrecked by someone who has actually picked up a hammer and swung it a few times before.Event 4 - Row / Hammer Stake
Row 500m
Hammer a 4' metal stake into specially prepared, evenly compacted ground (women use a 3' stake)
Row 500m
Details and standards will be given to the athletes on Saturday afternoon.
Re: The couch thread
Very good point. What you get out of training with a sledge depends how much you put into it. At least there is some metric in which to judge by in the event.JohnnyBadAss wrote:They may not have thought this far out, but the stake driving event actually solves an inherent problem of sledgehammer-the-tire training. The video from day one. I cannot believe how bad these guys are at running. Their form was the sloppiest of slop, and most average high school runners would beat them and look better doing it. They might do "grace" on a regular basis, but it doesn't make up for the lack of it.

Force, distance, and time is all you should be concerned with. No word yet on how @fit is actually increasing human performance. But hey, (Gl)assman doesn't need concrete arguments. He can just cuss in front of his audience and make strange references to Krebs cycles and outer space.

Allison would crush the bobbing for apples event. Then again, I suspect many X@ dudes could give her a run for her money, too.

Thoughts on Affiliate Cup Day 1:
- Some nice asses on those females. They're the scrubs that couldn't be elite enough to make the Games.
- I kept waiting for someone to go head over heels coming down that hill.
- Could they have picked less heterosexual music?

Pretty much all the events would be dominated by someone who's actually done manual labor in their lifetime as opposed to being a keyboard jockey who thinks he's elite because he vomits in some douchebag's garage gym.Fish wrote:Pretty cool event. It'd be funny to roll up to the Gaymes in your pickup truck with a bunch of Mexicans in the back that you just picked up from in front of Home Depot and have them just kill it. The Gaymes top 10 leaderboard would look something like...
1. Francisco Mendoza
2. Sancho Poblanes
3. Eduardo "El Duende" Gonzales
4. Miguel Rodriguez
5. Rodrigo Perez *disqualified due to swine flu*
6. Ricardo "El Tamalon" Tavares
7. Pedro Rodriguez
8. Pedro Gonzalez
9. Pedro Hernandez
10. Pedro Fernandez

I just watched that video of the games and I never realized just how many people are at those Gaymes. It blows my mind that that many dumbasses would travel from all over the country to compete in working out!

I'm really hoping it wasn't a tattoo. I mean, having it temporarily tattooed is a 10 on a 1-10 scale of gayest shit I've seen. Having it permanently tattoed is somewhere around a 20.DrDonkeyLove wrote:About 40% of the way in, it looks like a group of people tattooed the logo of their black box on their calves. Yo, RQ (was out of town...just read up): Sandbag guru sponsoring games = potential big $$$. He doesn't care about the nonsense, only his product.
He walked out of a Level 1 a couple years ago after arguing with Nicole if I'm not mistaken so he's not exactly an @fit fan.
Also, as meager as the 75lb sandbag load for men to carry may seem it should be noted that the original plan prior to guru-consultation was that men would carry 30lbs and women 10lbs (!!!).

Wow you mean we can't have unlimited affiliates in one town with no friction? I realize that in the "old" days you could go to your nearby affiliate and borrow some bumper plates, but with certs. rrg, affilation, games cost and 5K for a week in LA Biz School some of these D-bags want to make some cash. The fact that anyone is still surprised when it went wrong is baffling
#crossfitgames 11 competitors with 505 deadlifts (men)

So only 11 of the fittest men in the world can pull 505 for single? They argue that "you can pull 540, but whats your time in running up a hill carrying a bag of sand?" anser "I don't have to carry shit up the hill, i can make your ass do it and brag about it!"

Only the elitist survive...
That ain't no woman! It's a man, man!

I'm sure his piss results will be one the HQ folks will look the other way at, like with Carl Lewis and Ben Johnson...note that he's DLing in OL shoes too--Rip didn't give the pre-event advice, that is obviously.
Weak performer, fo' sho'. The poison oak means it is a totally taktikal and funktional event. The first WaD has several casualties. Joy Nguyen of CrossFit Vancouver was carried off the trail with an ankle injury, and the most emotional finish went to Valerie Mackenzie.
The Marina Del Rey resident entered the Stadium bleeding from her head and covered in dirt. About 10 feet from the finish she collapsed. The medical staff jumped to work and attempted to pick her up, but she brushed them off, staggered forward and fell to her knees again before standing up, crossing the line and collapsing.
Reports from the medical staff indicate that numerous athletes have come in contact with poison oak in the back country of Aromas.

No shit. @Fers don't sprint. Ever. It might ruin their ability to pound fake stakes into the ground later. When is a sprint not a sprint?
When you do it at the CrossFit Gaymes.

Tommy Hackenbruck crushed the WOD in a top time of 4:36 and attributes his success to his job: he works construction and has used a hammer six days a week for the last three years.

I think whomever called the injuries on the sledge WaD made the better call--
Other competitors struggled badly with the sledge, with one competitor breaking four of them before completing the event. Others were bleeding after wild swings found flesh instead of metal.
