Looking for books on the French Imperial Guard

Post by Batboy2/75 »

Particularly the Old Guard.
Arms are the only true badge of liberty. The possession of arms is the distinction of the free man from the slave.

I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.

Let me see what we have. Any specific dates in mind?

Anything from the Neapolonic era.

I remember reading about the old guard when I was a kid. I particularly remember the stories about the retired soldiers home in Paris, where some of the retired old guardsmen where described as striped like zebras from the saber scars they carried.

I also remember their nick name, "les Grognards"

Badasses to the extreme.

I'll have to look up the name of the Calvary Old Guardsman officer that was surrounded and asked to surrender. His reply was "do these boys look like they surrender?" and then proceeded to cut his way out.

The Old Guard carried the day at Austerlitz. Hard core.

I remember standing right where they got hosed at Waterloo. Eerie.

I was really interested in them when I was a boy too.Wouldn`t mind reading a good book or 2 about them.
