True Grit

Post by Kazuya Mishima »

Best movie ever, fuck you if you don't think so too.

Seriously, one of the best flicks I've seen in a LONG time. Jeff Bridges is just incredible, and the little girl is a helluva actress. Matt Damon seems a little out of place in this movie for some reason, but he also does a fine job. Good supporting roles from Josh Brolin and Barry Pepper.

Gritty and brutally realistic. This version makes the John Wayne original look like a high school play in comparison.

This is the Coens at their best, imo.

I liked it too. The dialog had an oddly formal rhythm to it. I do not believe they ever used a contraction. Sort of the opposite of how Deadwood did it. But it worked.

I recommend it.

Really good. Fucked up seeing Bridges in Tron and this in the same week.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Totally agree. The dialogue and speech patterns weren't mean't to represent how westerners talked in the 1870's. There is an extra level of narrative diistance-- everything is as remembered by grown-up Mattie 40 years later.

Very good. Liked the original matter better but overall big improvement over Wayne.

Excellent. Best movie I've seen in a long time and it is much better than the John Wayne version, which I love.

Excellent movie. A classic by the Coen brothers, with outstanding acting by all.

I didn't like the epilogue. I thought it detracted, more than added, to the story & mood.

Holy fuckballs! This may be the best movie I've seen in a long time if ever.

Gawddamn this is a good movie. Damon and the little girl were great but gawddamn The Dude is off the charts. I loved him in Crazy Heart but he is out fucking standing in this.

It was good, not great.

The formal dialogue was terrible and pedantic.

There was less violence and villainy than I was led to believe.

But it wsa good. Just not great.
