Unbroken

Ultimately bland.

The events it depicts are interesting, if not as heroic as the film makers want you to believe, but despite being a Coen brothers film it's basically bland, slow, and uninteresting.

That is surprising. The book was quite good FWIW.

A movie can only be so long but I've read that very little attention was paid to his life after the war. When he came back he had emotional and booze problems as could be expected. His wife was about to divorce him, etc.

He went to a Billy Graham crusade and went down the born again road and had what appears to be a real conversion experience. His emotions and marriage got straightened out and he even went to Japan to preach to his former guards. There was a special about it on TV over the holidays showing him just a few years ago and he was still on the Jesus path, so whatever happened stuck with him..

Whether it was the Holy Spirit or something psychological, it seems like a critical part of his life that was deserving of a few minutes of movie time.
