Re: The couch thread
Problem is, there is nothing about @F programming that would lend any sports-specific coach to believe that it would develop even novice capacities (capabilities).
Novice weightlifters CAN DO A PROPER SNATCH. Elite @Fers CANNOT, that is obviously.

This is shit that kills me. If you can't lift 400lbs off the floor you lack STRENGTH not form. With the o-lifts there is some form issues that will pop your numbers up but the deadlift is fucking easy. The pages and pages of shit about it are just fucking stupid--grip and rip. Yeah you gotta get some form issues worked out like pulling with your back or neck placement, but why can't the average cuntfitter just call a spade a spade. I have seen retarded guys pull huge numbers because they didn't know any better.Allison NYC
Umm getting back to the original question on your frustration with your deadlift...
For me the biggest thing is form form FORM, I unfortunately long ago got into the "stronging it" rather than "forming it" and that can and does lead to injury and frustration or injury CAUSED by frustration. Few years ago I had quit the gym for a couple of years and having to get ready for another deployment went back and ended up frustrated with myself, the guy in the mirror, the other dudes in the gym etc. etc. So I started to 'push myself' THEN got frustrated with my progress (lack thereof)and 'pushed myself' some more forgetting and overlooking everything I knew and had trained myself (and others I might add) in the military over the years.
A friend took pity on me and my frustration and told me something:
"LEAVE YOUR SUPERMAN CAPE AT THE DOOR!!"
?? Seems stupid that he should say that and that I should have forgotten it.
Your max increases with FORM. Have someone stand there and really critique your form with weight you can HANDLE 50% (yeah - 50%) of what you THINK you can handle. When your form is PERFECT add 10# at a time until your form varies in the SLIGHTEST then STOP! That's your new max and start from there as a PR and work from there.
The truth it's not about anything other than your HEART and your HEAD after you get form down. It's not in the mirror or whoever or whatever you are competing with or even the pile of plates over there (like those damn addictive Doritos they WILL make more). It also helps me to think of shoving down with my heels thru the floor pushing the earth away but hey thats what worked for me.
Hope that helps. Mac

Almost no great deadlifter has great "form". Pushing with your heels is WRONG IMHO. Deadlift requires much higher %1RM to learn groove since there is no eccentric.CultBuster wrote:This is shit that kills me. If you can't lift 400lbs off the floor you lack STRENGTH not form. I guess when the girls in the gym lift as much as you do "good forum" is all you're left with.
Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. - Helen Keller
Re: The couch thread
That just goes to show the backasswardness of @fit. The deadlift requires the most immaculate, precision form yet a proper snatch consists of a hump backed dry hump to a bent armed squat position that would confuse the hell out of most contortionists. And to top it off, a pressout that has more ROM than most mullets shoulder press with. Gotta love these guys.CultBuster wrote:This is shit that kills me. For all their talk about virtuosity and great form/technique, how come we never see any of it in the millions of videos all these narcissistic dimwits keep posting?

SG,
We offer discounts to many but Crossfit is one we no longer have any interest in supporting. Try the Garage Gym. They have developed a ball for their few exercises. They are part of the CF inner circle. That way you would be supporting the program that you obviously have invested in and believe in. We do not and are trying desperately to separate ourselves from their inner circle.
You would think that as much money as the inner circle has taken from those like you and others that they would arrange some sort of discount to purchase those things they buy and either abuse or do not use.
Maybe a discount on a 2-day "certification" that a chimpanzee with a $1000 could acuire.

A second spaz backs up the faggots findings:Weird question but Google didn't have an answer....
Has anyone ever gotten a rash from a kettlebell? Every time I do any kettlebell work, I end up with a nasty rash the next day and it doesn't go away for several days. It's mostly on my forearms and a little on my biceps. It looks like razor burn and it's not healing completely (forming minor scars).
What to do?
Hi Shane,
I am glad to read your post on this because I have had a similar issue. However, my experience in light of yours leads me to think that it is not the finish that is the problem.
I have recently started working with a 1.5 pood kettelbell having never really used one before. Mine is a China knockoff one piece, solid iron bell with no known finish. On both forearms where the bell rest in the rack position, I have a small outbreak of what seems very acne like. I don't suffer from acne otherwise.
Basically, it has healed just as acne would heal over time. I wonder if it is not just the bell pulling and tearing at the hair on my arm leading to something similar to ingrown hairs and / or follicle damage.

Re: The couch thread
I was wondering about this. I worked out at Blauer's place last year and they had 50 bars, so many bumpers you couldn't count and stacked with rowers. It seems that they are super fucking busy (I had oner 30 people in my work out) and charging like $75 a month! This is an interesting topic. I do crossfit, both on my own and thru a "official" crossfit facility in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area of Va. This area has become saturated with crossfit. Just in my local area there are 5 to 6 crossfit facilities plus many excellent trainers that are not crossfit, plus Golds, Ballys, Private Gyms, MMA facilities, Base Gyms, etc. Some of these facilities are now offering Crossfit Like workouts as well. The point here is that there are no lack of places to work out. Most Crossfit facilities are charging around $120-$130. An interesting side note here is that the place that was billed as being the East Coast Crossfit Headquarters Training center is now offering cross fit to the public for about half that amount (if I was a paying affiliate I would be scratching my head on that one, or at least asking if my yearly affiliation dues are going to support a HQ that is taking customers from me). I hate to say it but when the market and competition is like it is maybe affiliates/Crossfit HQ need to look at other ways in keeping/getting new membership. You are trying to attract people to pay for a work out that by its own invention was made to be done in a persons garage. The hard core “I only want the most dedicated people” may work if you are the only game in town. Your goal by being in business is to make money. No, not break even. Hardcore does not pay your rent, feed you, fix your car when it breaks down or pay for a retirement account. I guess the main point I am trying to make is that for the most part the people who are trying to make a living thru cross fit might need to look outside the Crossfit box when it comes to pricing, maintaining membership, marketing, etc. Individual trainers need to decide whether this is a hobby or a business. You can be passionate about both but make a living only thru one.

SvenG -- allow me to clarify -- there is no HQ-sponsored affiliate. All CrossFit affiliates are privately owned and independently operated. Therefore, your statement about "affiliation dues are going to support a HQ that is taking customers away from me" is just wrong.
Your other points, however, are worth considering in the context of this discussion.

We put a lot of gear in the Blauer Tactical Training Center intending to do a lot of seminars at that location. The motivation was to have a place with enough gear to run parallel chippers with 20 circuits of 15 stations, etc.
Early we decided that it was more important to do seminars at affiliates boxes and keep the location for cert's moving.
We left the gear their for my friend Tony Blauer to use. Now Brendan Gillian and CF Obsession have rented space from Blauer Tactical and Atlantic Dive Supply, and they're using the gear. I never considered this a sponsored affiliate but it is surely being subsidized by us and I'm bothered by CF Obsession undercutting the market with our help.
I'm going to ask my friend Brendan to make his rates comparable to the other affiliates and to either begin making payments for the gear or we're going to take it back.
This is an oversight and it's going to be corrected. You weren't quite right in the specifics, Sven, but you are in principle. Thanks.

Re my last post: Our Affiliate Director, Lisbeth Darsh, had no knowledge of any of the particulars surrounding CF Obsession, the gear, or our relationship with Blauer Tactical and Atlantic Dive Supply.
