some stunning(ly weak) numbers being put up here.
FWIW, vis a vis Gym jones CF, glassman and twight seem to be equally narcissistic;
Mark for good reason,
cooch for none that is apparent.

Well, that's a good point about the narcissism...the thing about Gym Jones is that if they're so fucking underground then why the website? "Look at me...look at me...I'm fight clubbin', yo!!!"Charismatic megafauna wrote:check out the big DL on brad.......

The GJ piece about how they take care of intellectual property rights "in the streets" makes me roll my eyes just thinking about it...it so strives to be butch, but just ends up looking like a 16-year-old kid flexing at a party. Mark Twight = 155 lbs = shut the fuck up sez me.
Along the narcissism tangent...I sometimes feel the sting of my primitive moral upbringing biting me in the back of the head when I take shots at the CF gals...they probably catch some undue flak because of their association with the Glass Cooch. Then again, one can do CF workouts in baggy sweats just as easily as sports bras, half shirts, spandex shorts, and yoga pants. So, it speaks volumes when you parade your sweaty moose knuckle for all the world to see. Once again...look at me, look at me, look at me!!!

Doing a CF workout in baggy sweats sucks. High tech fabrics and the least clothes you can wear is the way to go for sweaty work. This is just the usual IGX anti-showing the fact that you actually have done the work thing.
The fact Mark is 155 is means shit. He's as intense, pissed off and serious as anyone out there. There's lot's of 155lb bad asses. Again IGX bullshit.
Maybe he has a site for the same reason we do.

Mmmmmkay...I'm not going to engage in a pissing match because I highly respect you if for nothing else than you don't hide behind behind web aliases (y'know...like me).
Having said that...I've done CF...I've done the sweaty shit...I train and fight MMA...blah, blah, blah...look at me. All I'm sayin' is that they don't mind showin' it off...and that's cool...free eye candy is the shit.
Twight...bleh, intense and pissed off doesn't scare me...it makes me laugh (behind their back, of course). I used to be the exact same way (but probably about different issues), and I finally grew up when I hit mid-30's (sad but true). Ok, I didn't grow up and don't intend to, but you get the point.
All I'm sayin' is that the implication that he or one of Pedro Sauer's guys is going to whip somebody's ass in the streets because they lifted one of Twight's Iggy Pop references without permission is laughable.
The guy might be hella cool, and we might get along like long lost brothers...who knows.
Bill,
You are correct when you say there are some 155 lb badasses. However, they regularly get there asses kicked by 175/200/225 lb badasses. Unless the heavier guys know absolutley nothing about fighting, count the 155 lber out. That is why most every combat sport has adopted weight classes. The little man beating the big man shit just doesn't happen much. Also, truely tough guy's aren't usually running around in public telling everyone how bad they are.

rjudo,
Clearly, big bad and pissed off beats little bad and pissed off every time - just saying that dismissing someone because they're 155 is silly.

I agree with about the "growing up" thing. Maintaining Mark's level of "hard core" all the time gets old fast. I was talking to someone at a party last week about moving to the 'burbs after 15 years in the city. He was clearly horrified. I told him the 'burbs were now cool because I'm moving there. I think he "got" I was actually saying he was a tool for thinking that where you lived made you cool. The site does have a certain "trying hard" thing to it, but I look at that as Mark's real belief that people need to shocked, offended or whatever into changing paradigms.
I never read that street retribution thing. That does sound silly, although I have heard lot's of that kind of talk from Brazilain BJJ over the years.

Any size, pissed off, and semi-automatic weapons beat 225# pissed off NFL cornerbacks everytime. Not condoning drivebys, just weapons usually beats working out, Martial arts, yada yada yada.

It is kind of funny to watch these different camps claim 'intellectual property rights' to working out. Like no one ever thought of doing more than one thing in a workout before they came along and put a different name on it. I better be careful, if I do a dead workout using 1-3 ladders and follow it up with rows, I'm infringing on gymjones rights! Then some skinny fucks who can barely deadlift 300lbs are gonna come whip my ass!
A terrifying thought . Screw deadlifts, I think I'll just do some cable crossovers instead, much safer.

Yeah, saw that earlier today. I don't know much about the guy, but it did mention something about him giving talks to youth about staying out of gangs. I can't help but wonder if he was an innocent party, or if he had some sort of past that caught up with him.Whosonfirst wrote:Any size, pissed off, and semi-automatic weapons beat 225# pissed off NFL cornerbacks everytime. In high end mountaineering (Mark's sport) you can almost exactly reverse that. The super studs that can climb all 8000 meter peaks via death routes are typically not big. They are massively strong, and of course have insane strength to weight ratios. The big guys are for some reason penalized physiologically.rjudo wrote:Bill,

Alex Lowe, famous alpinist, carried some guy on his back up 600 vertical feet of Denali at around 20,000 feet of altitude in a rescue. And he was average size, 160 LBs or so himself.

let me reiterate
Do not be confused.
I think Mark is totally self absorbed but a truly hard man. If you have followed his career at all, it's no secret the guy rightfully impressed with himself. 155 pounds or no, the dude delivers big time within his chosen parameters.
The GJ stuff is charming in it's earnestness. Miles of credibility by way of having standards such as a pull-up is a pull-up, not gymnastical.
on the other hand....Cooch is delusional. His program is fun and sometimes interesting but it's not cutting edge in any sense and certainly not the end all be all of strength endurance programming.

There was an article some years ago in Climbing or Rock&Ice about this Swiss Alpine climber who trained like a sport climber. He was about Bruce Lee's size, (5-7,145lbs) but sported 15 inch guns and ripped like gymnast. His training included VOLUMES of pullups, chinups, dips, on plastic. He was this laid back guy too, relaxing with Expresso at sidewalk cafe's in Europe.

I found the grip strength from the hangboard translated almost directly to the deadlift.

At the risk of pissing a lot of people off, I'm finally convinced that she's a bigger attention whore than Glassman.

She still got the BOMB ass booty. Turn her around, smack it down, throw a bag on that head...whatever you need to do.
