What changed? Was it the money and attention they were starting to get? With money available and attention to be had, they could get away with ditching the dissenters and telling people to toe the party line or shove it?

His Waterloo was the NYT article

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/22/fashi ... tness.html

That is when his ranting got outside the inner circle and lots of folks who were not invested in the concept said "what?".

The true believers went on the offensive shortly thereafter but had neither the background nor the intellect to engage in Training Theory and Application Debates.

Money, attention, booze and pussy proved too much for couch. Lynne Pitts got drunk on her mod power. She is couch's Himmler. That Brown Shirt cunt.

Yes. It was at this juncture that the wagons began to circle.

Just looked on wikipedia, noticed this edit made it in:
CrossFit was founded by former high-school gymnast Greg Glassman and his ex-wife Lauren Glassman
Amusing is one of the links "cited" to support it:
In fact, almost everything about CrossFit is free, which also sets it apart from other fitness crazes.

Now look. I've eaten a pice of pie.
When we spin the pie again, the area cut out of the volume of the sphere equals fitness.

I think that the NYT article started a bunch of bullshit and "300" as well. Every article and tv show listed Mark Twight and Gym Jones but the idiot masses would not let it go. When you started to get more and more "leaders" with 1-2 years of total exercise experience showing up to lead certs. When I came around there were still some really decent people around and doing well. It quickly turned into the guys that started to specialize in CF because it was all they could do. When Barky started to get legitimate coverage and became the new face. When gyms had more and more rowers and less and less barbells. When the clothes started to matter. The running shoes, lifting shoes, skins and physio tape. With Greg A and some of those guys it was board shorts and running shoes now every fucking wad is like and event. I don't blame couch for going off the deep end, I was impressed that he held it together for as long as he did. The limp wasn't polio, it was syphilis

John,
You are right. The last few hours or days have really reminded me of what was lost in this whole thing. I came on the internet when the High Intensity guys ruled the web. Then, Andy F opened the Old School site (which would be "normal" discussions on the web now) and crossfit started posting some good links, including one to me. That's what got them on the map, in a lot of ways, was the links and some fairly simple advice.

It was "all the rest" that made it what it is today...whatever that is...

The conversations were very good over at crossfit. I hired a guy to walk behind me and say "All glory is fleeting." Not a bad idea for some...

I miss Old School. That's where I first came across DJ and he was talking about CF. I was also in lust with Eva T. Yeah, yeah I know but that ass...I couldn't help myself.

I found crossfit around this time and started checking out the site. I remember some of the pissing matches. Shaf pointedly calling couch "Greg" on a thread over there sticks out in my mind, and Rant getting banned.
Eventually I lost interest just because I'm a regular guy and can't see myself having $10,000 to blow on all the requisite gym toys.
I came across some of Pavel's stuff around this time, too. I said fuck it and bought ETK and a kettlebell.
A huge part of their problem is the expense involved. You can get so much more bang for your buck in other ways, and people who have exercised before can see this pretty easily.

It would agitate the fuck out of people when someone wouldn't use the word that's now been replaced by "couch"

Somewhat ironic, given their origins. "Build your garage gym! Do CrossFit! It's cheap!"

Most @Fitters would fucking drown if they got in the water, but it would be okay since they would be 'drowning for time'.

Interesting discussion on this thread was, is, and will always be the only real reason I have for coming to this site. Holding a mirror up to your stupidity was only a means to pass the dead time that unironically revived this thread.

LOL at your spin!
