Can you look at the pic and determine gender?
1. Overall "soft" appearance - no vascularity at all
2. No visible breasts or hips, though there is kind of a hint.
3. PVC blocking view of adam's apple
4. Shaved legs

Re: The couch thread
Well it's max deadlift day again over at @fit. Still no 700 pound pulls. Have you ever noticed how the comments on ME days are always a bunch of bullshit not related to ME. Already 10 comments about "form". They never mention “form” while flailing around on the pull-up bar but when challenged to actually display some strength its form this and form that and a bunch of horseshit about their bodyweight. What a bunch of lanky phags.

Re: The couch thread
I'll say this, I never deadlifted before I tried @fit. Yes, I know this is unbelievable, but I was the typical 24hr Fitness gym rat until about 5 years ago. When I saw some WOD that called for 500m row sprints backed up by 15 DL's at 225, I thought it was a piece of cake. I mean, if some of these skinny bastards were pulling 225 for reps, why couldn't I?
So, I looked on the site, found the video of proper DL form, and went at it.
Around the 3rd round, at rep 5 or 6, I felt my lower back spasm. I stopped, stretched, and worked through it. I finished all 5 rounds and didn't deadlift again for about a year. I did do one ME deadlift day (my first) and got to 275 for singles. Tried 280 and couldn't go. The high rep day at 225 killed my enthusiasm for the DL (as far as going heavy). It wasn't until much later, and after attending a @fit seminar, and working out with other @fitters, that I found out how much the posters lie on the main page.
Short story long, it's why you see so many talking about "form." They can't pull for shit (like me), have been called out at a cert for light weights, and are too afraid to say, "I'm following cooch's protocol and can't even set up 700lbs, let alone pull it." Oh, and when I hurt my back, no one was posting or writing about "scaling the workout for your ability." It was all posturing and bluster.
Still is, FWICS.

Re: Banned first DL xfit wod
I tried my first real DL during my month of checking out the WOD. I think I pulled an ugly 285# on this workout exactly, or lost it due to grip. Sure they was some poorly advertised talk of scaling, but I'll admit I'm lucky I didn't hurt myself at all on that max effort.
I do see a couple 4-500lb pull result reported on there. I can't speak about the veracity of them, though.
I have a friend who logs on there, truthfully, and has stalled some in the max DL, and I try to sell him on spending some dedicated strengthening time to up the weak area, even if it means a temporary drop in metcon WOD performance, after which he'd see overall improvement. He's not done it so far, and stalling continues.
I'd like to stage an intervention... ah, whatever, to each his own.

Re: The couch thread
The 700# deadlift myth was based on a freak mutant judoka who was strong before crossfit and is now even stronger after crossfit. He stopped doing it when he realized that it wasn't helping his judo play, despite Glassman's insistence that he push his WOD times even lower.
IIRC, the 700# deadlift never surfaced, that number was based on a 685x2 or x3 pull said monster judoka did.
For any ONE sport, there is an optimal level of this sort of shit. For, life, you gotta wing it, baby.

Re: The couch thread
FWIW, last year I gave crossfit a shot. The week prior to starting @fit, I did a 405lb DL single, a bit over double body weight for me (190). Not earth shattering, but good for me, a mediocre lifter. Four months of WODs and one fucked up shoulder later, I could barely pull 275. I was truly drained and overtrained from the WODs, and lost a shitload of strength, at least relative to my meager capabilities.

So let me see if I understand. The holy grail of the crossfit world is not in credentials but in boobs and curls? It's good to know what's needed to get ahead.

You know as much as we mock these yahoos we are only feeding the beast by clicking on the website and watching the mind rotting videos.
But damn if it isn't entertaining as hell.

Re: The couch thread
As much as we heap abuse on duCane and the ethical train wreck that is DD marketing, I have to give the man some kudos.
We had a conversation at dinner after the RKC and somehow we got onto marketing. He said that he stayed away from using sex in their materials because it was a slippery slope and you'd have to keep ratcheting it up.*
Now here's @fit, going from having a vid of Allison, to a vid of her in her motel room in her bra blathering on about whatever, to a vid in which they actually point out that she has big tits.
Next up, I predict full-frontal, then a new WOD called "The Allison," which will bear a remarkable resemblance to the infamous "Houston 500."
*I hasten to add that this was true of DD at the time, but I have no clue what DD does now. I don't keep up with it, and for all I know Nina Hartley shows up in the KB Goddess video and does a scene with the "Anal Dane of Pain."

Google is your friends.
When I want to find a .pdf I type something like "[newsletter name] rapidshare" and a result comes up. In this case, the first result at the time of my search led me to issues 1-40 of said journal.

Now look. I've eaten a pice of pie.
When we spin the pie again, the area cut out of the volume of the sphere equals fitness.
