Re: The couch thread
I am an affiliate. I rarely post, but I think the RRG is very important and needs to be funded. I am a small, part-time garage gym affiliate and a fairly early adopter of CrossFit. I purchased my share in the RRG the day it was announced. $1000 was not easy to come up with but I thought it was important enough that I purchased the first day. In fact, I would be interested in purchasing additional shares. CrossFit insuring Crossfit...this is a no-brainer in my humble opinion.

Our affiliate isn't even up and running yet, but we have joined the RRG and I have joined as an individual trainer. This program is by us, for us. It seems to me that membership is a litmus test of how seriously you take CrossFit. As for most of you, it wasn't easy to pony up the 1k, but well worth it.
ps. We're hoping to be up and running in a couple of weeks. If you're in the Tahoe area this summer look us up: South Tahoe CrossFit.

urge all affiliates to join in and make this happen. The insurance issue is real and will create huge headaches unless we move forward with our own insurance protection.
Now, let's hear from those affiliates who haven't contributed yet and the reasons why. I think those of you who have yet to kick in owe the rest of us who have an answer. I don't want to create an us vs. them battle between affiliates, but ask yourself how committed you are to CrossFit if you're not willing to make this relatively small investment for the greater good of the CrossFit community.
I would like to see the RRG buy-in becomes a mandatory fee in order to maintain affiliation. If I were Coach, I'd just announce that we're going to do just that and if you don't like it, then you're free to cancel your affiliation. You're either with us, or you're not.

So we want to be taken seriously by the entire fitness industry, the military, law enforcement and everyone else. We post pics of hoochie girls doing hoochie things all over the web (which is a good thing) and then we blindly throw money at RRG whether we understand it or not. Now we admonish all the trainers and owners who have not paid in and at the same time demand that they tell us why. To help us along CFINC will post radio, video and print to help us, along with a "shaming" list. If you are not listed you have not paid. And at the end of the day the reason you need an RRG is that insurance is based on IF you get hurt and CF is based on WHEN you get hurt. "I just started @Fit and now I'm going to introduce it to my soldiers" Who the fuck would insure that and why would affiliate A want to pay for affiliate B dumb ass mistake. Why can't they just take some of that cert money and fund it? Because the program suck. Only bonus is crazy girls flock to it and no one can give it as good as a crazy chick. This is great. I just started doing crossfit and I am introducing it to some soldiers and expect to probably kill them.

They need 500 affiliates to kick in $1K each, and that's before premiums? And affiliates who don't kick in will be uninsurable? How much will the premiums be, and is this supplemental Rhabdo insurance on top of general liability? What does and doesn't this thing cover them for?

RE: RRG
I've got an idea - Don't give your clients fucking rhabdo. Don't take people fresh off the streets and start teaching them Oly lifts for hundreds of reps as fast as possible. Have some decent programming and bring your clients along nice and slow so they have time to adapt to training loads. Get rid of the names on the white board as a means of motivation because it encourages stupid shit and bad form. Don't put clients into compromising exercise situations.
Obviously the injury rate of the average @F gym must be off the charts for them to be shitting themselves worrying about being uninsurable if they don't get the RRG funded. Doesn't that kind of point out the bullshit in couch's arguments that @F if safer for our armed forces than anything else they could do?

The whole "mess you up" think is stupid. A client who can't train because they get rhabdo also isn't going to pay. Even excessive soreness will fuck up the training.

Axly, what cooch said was that if you're not advocating corssfit for the american soldier, you're "compromising operational readiness", which sounds like something he heard on 24.

Yeah, the good ones have a degree of sanity behind them that sets them apart from the average chest thumping "Ruthless Fitness" CF gym.The Bastard Son of the Shafman wrote:All the smart affiliates have this already.

I used to go to the one near me because they had the only set of bumpers in town that I could use. And CF gyms typically have a lot of cool shit to play with like sleds and pull-up bars and ropes that no globogym is going to have.
When they had their group classes, anybody off the street could pay and join in. They'd get a 5 mintue explanation of the workout, a 3-2-1-GO, and off they went balls to the wall. Recipe for injury and lawsuit.

Even some of the very good facilities, like Affilaite #1, Crossfit North (now crossfit level 4) are starting to be infiltrated by retards. Crossfit North is a great example. It was started by an ex SEAL, a cop and none other than R. Wolfe...I've met a few people there about 3 years ago..and they have always seemed some of the most level headed of endurance athletes, not a koolaid brigade by any stretch. I've referred several fat people there as I knew they would get good grounding in technique. that was then.....this was an actual "ME" workout from a couple weeks ago....
deadlift, load the bar with the max weight you can handle for
10 reps
10 reps
8 reps
8 reps
5 reps
5 reps
then.... attempt a max single.
follow this genius shit up with kipping pullups (like one jillion) and then a half hour of working on POSE running. Teh guy instrcuting could not hold a light RDL in the bottom positon his pull was such crap.
This is pretty typical of the stuff I hear from folks attending group sessions at several nearby affiliates. total retardation, shit technique and no context...whatever legitimacy was residing in the smarter affiliates is being slowly rubbed out by the next generation.

"Local weightlifting club" = bus station glory hole.

The place I train is was an iron gym before becoming a @F affiliate. About 1/4 of the members there do @F in some form, with 1/2 of those doing it in classes. It's not a kool-aid stand, and they do their own sensible programming. Our HNIC doesn't seem to want any part of the RRG. The head trainer laughed about it and suggested that "not doing stupid shit that fucks up your clients" is a better approach to insurance.
In the future, as more sensible people reject the RRG propaganda, you'll see fewer "CrossFit City" and more "City Gym" that is affiliated with @F and offers @F classes.
There will also be a lot more of this in the coming days. It's like Dr. Seuss's Sneetches book that I read to my kids.
It seems to me that membership is a litmus test of how seriously you take CrossFit.
Finally, most of you kweers don't get a pass on snowangel. I called this tramp out a couple months ago as a wanna-be cocktease. I'm glad everyone has come around, but if you got dickhard over crappy deadlift pics and pseudo-slutty commentary (junior high girls text shit like this), then you need to go camping. Maybe twice. Hard. Really, 35 years old and she hasn't had her eye dotted? BOTO is still a teenager and he deals with this every week. Shit. Now, let's hear from those affiliates who haven't contributed yet and the reasons why. Shari, Diva, and JuggsNYC are the real thing, and they've set the bar high. Don't be fooled by the latest shiny object. Crazy don't wash off.
Re: The couch thread
RRG is an admission that Crossfit is simply Couch trying to collect as much money as fast as possible. He will sell a license to, and collect fees from, affiliates (read: Level 1 Certified!) who aren't even remotely qualified to train anyone in anything, much less high-intensity, weighted exercise for amateurs and beginners.
It's no wonder insurance companies won't touch them.

Hey, she showed initial potential. I regret nothing. Sadly (as my High School track coach was fond of pointing out to us), potential is one of the ugliest words in the english language.Gin Master wrote:Finally, most of you kweers don't get a pass on snowangel. Snowangel demonstrated enough potential to get invited to training camp, but failed to show tenacity and work ethic. We gave her a shot, and she didn't measure up. She's just not going to make the @fit A-list roster.
Shari, Diva, and ANYC may be superstars, but that doesn't mean we should stop scouting for new talent. It will only take one overdose or a more-serious-than-normal domestic disturbance, and we'll be short handed. Then what are we going to do?

So you're saying we should keep Snowangel's whereabouts known just in case we need to claim her off the waiver wires for batshit crazy @fit chicks.

Does this mean I'm Lv1 IGx Certified now, or do you guys actually have a test with yours? And where do I mail the $1,000 check to? Bill Fox, the board administrator, or someone else?

Re: The couch thread
How could anyone get sued over ingenious programming like this? (never mind the exploitation):
I was just thinking that in the "Heroes" WODs, it is never mentioned that they ever did @F. If there is an implication that their lack of nodal fitness is what contributed to their early departure, that is even more wrong than the exploitation.
On the Josh Everett note...he told me that was the easiest WAD he ever did. For him, 2 1/2 minutes of 3 x 10 (total rep) rounds is barely enough to even get his breathing up. That guy thrives on low-rep strength stuff.
Geez...150 swings, burpees, and GHD situps. For those who check the message board, look for the noob rhabdo cases tomorrow!"Hansen"
Five rounds for time of:
2 pood Kettlebell swing, 30 reps
30 Burpees
30 Glute-ham sit-ups

Patrick, you and BOto both remind me of this Houseman poem...Patrick Donnelly wrote: - just finished reading it after taking a nap.

No use to talk to me.
When I was one-and-twenty
I heard him say again,
`The heart out of the bosom

And oh, 'tis true, 'tis true.
