One Ton Lifting Hooks

Post by Garm »

Cleaning out the bookmarks folder, figured this product was useful enough to post before I deleted the link. Since they are rock-solid, I'll never need to buy another pair.

I've had these for about 3 years now, and they are useful for a lot of things - high-rep DL and row work, spine decompression (you can completely relax while you hang and hang a lot longer), etc. I'm not normally a gadget proponent, but these have been in my gym bag since the day I first tried them and always will be. I hate straps, I love these hooks.

Hey uncle,

Can these be used on a thick bar? I've never seen one so I can't tell whether they'd fit or not.

I once saw you mentioning Mint Hill Kung Fu. How do you know the people there?

Thanks,

Jim

Dunno, Jim - I've never seen a thick bar so I never tried it. The guys at the company were quite tolerant of the thousand questions I had when I was thinking about buying the hooks, so shoot 'em a line and see what they say.

I had a big job in Charlotte a 7-8 years back that had me in town 4 days a week for over a year. The Mint Hill xingyiquan crowd are third cousins twice removed, so I got a recommendation from some folks I already knew and went by to work out a few nights a week, since I am too heterosexual to stomach Eric Sbarge or any of the other local CMA types that are easier to find. I also know some other CACMA types through a guy named Moffet who teaches up here now but is still one of their senior members, and he also gave a good word on Mint Hill. I forget who the xingyi instructor is there and never fooled around with the wingchun or that other style they teach there, but everyone was friendly and appeared serious about what they were doing.

Cool. The hsing-i guy has been training in Tai chi and wing chun is still happening there. I'm taking the lai tong pai with someone from Mint Hill who has relocated to Kings Mountain. Sifu Li is still in Charlotte. Sifu Moffet is a nice guy and I've met some of the others that you alluded to as well.

the thick bar is 2.5 inches in diameter, and I'll get a smaller olympic bar for the hooks.

Thanks for your help, and I'm glad to hear that you are recovering. Interferon can be a bitch, but so is hep C

Makes sense, since the hooks are to eliminate the grip from the equation. Only use them when grip is the issue - for me, that's the aforementioned hangs and any pulling motion over 12 reps or so on the third set. I can always hold onto as much as I can lift for 1 rep, and have proven this to myself with hooks. Grip endurance is my problem and the hooks solve it nicely. Let us know how you like them, please.
