Re: The couch thread
Quoted from the article:Yes I Have Balls wrote:Oh lookie, @Fit panders to another sponsor to rake in $$$$ and the rank and file are shitting bricks.
http://journal.crossfit.com/2010/07/sup ... l#comments
WUT? These idiots spend more on sports wear and silly faggy shoes in a month then most real athletes (i.e. people who compete in real sports) in two years. Not to forget all the camera and recording equipment that they need to flood the web with countless videos of their shitty performances. And how the fuck is paying 150$ a month to workout in a fucking shed under the guidance of some Cuntfit certified "trainer" not hyper-consumerism?Until quite recently, supplementation was not part of the collective CrossFit consciousness. This was, perhaps, part of the CrossFit community’s generalized disdain for hyper-consumerism.
Funny how the minions get their shit screwed up by the mentioning of supplements, just like this Jay Ashman dude
More money for Couch's gin & donuts fund...I'll say this once, and say it as eloquently as I can. This is hypocrisy. On one hand you are preaching "better living through food" and on the other hand "supplementation MAY push you to be a better athlete".
I've been around the lifting world long enough to know that supplements work... when combined with a balanced diet, and I've ALSO been around long enough that an endorsement like this doesn't come "free". You are pushing Progenex and At-Large down our throats just like you push the Zone down our throats.
Maybe you need supplements to ward off muscle atrophy after eating 11 blocks a day? Maybe some people are too naive to realize the double message here.
This isn't a random guy posting an article, like say me, about the benefits of egg white protein powder for an athlete. This is the owner of a supplement company writing an article for the company who's "games" he is sponsoring. This reminds me of an ad in MuscleMag for MuscleTech but this time the bottom footer of "advertisement" is missing on this one.
This, like the Glassman evolution article, is a joke. I don't care about what Mason says, hell... he isn't wrong in saying that supplementation works, but he is a paid sponsor, the agenda is PLAINLY clear. Its like "dude, sponsor the games and we'll publish an article about at large on the journal so every firebreathing follower who does as we say can spend their money with you".
Don't take this as an attack on supplements, I take some and they help. Take this as an attack on your so-called "anti-hyper-consumerism" and the blatant hyprocrisy you are now showing by SHOWCASING a consumer product, and not because they may be good... but because they are a sponsor.
And save the HQ posturing and rationale, again. That's exactly what this looks like or why would you have changed your stance so quickly as soon as 2 supplement companies get involved with the games.

Bwahahaha
Isn't Jay Ashman on the outs anyway?
I believe he may be mutual friends with some of our cohorts here.
I've been hearing rumblings recently that @fit HQ is a bit tired of getting it's ass handed to it by @fit Foosball. They seem to be losing more and more recruits to the young upstart and they just aren't real comfortable with it.

I didn't want this to get lost in the other thread, you know, the one where Mike Caviston went out and competed in a SM competition...yet I'm sure he kept his shirt on while couch stayed locked up indoors.

Oddly enough, there are two different Jay Ashmans. Maybe from a parallel universe, but AFAIK they both have the "evil universe twin goatee" so who knows?

LOL
And niggers like that are a double edged sword for @fitters. They didn't get where they are using @fit, don't follow the main page WODs and ringers like this pretty much ensure that no average @fitter will ever win the gaymes.

Dude is impressive and humble, and best of all he keeps his shirt on while dominating all the loud mouthed retards you see posting new videos every second day. Hope he wins again this year.Yes I Have Balls wrote:Apparently the average for the men's 'competitors' at the Gaymes is 19:44. Of all the stupid shit CF does, this is one thing I think they (often) get right. What passes for gym marketing today is pathetic. Hire a semi-pro photographer with a flash and get an entire website's worth of photographs in an afternoon. Put it on a Wordpress blog. Update on occasion to say what's going on at your gym.Cowboys and Aliens wrote:Not to forget all the camera and recording equipment that they need to flood the web with countless videos of their shitty performances.
I understand that a lot of gyms aren't run by people with a great deal of business sense, but I should be able to pull up the website for any gym in my area and have a solid idea exactly what equipment they have and what the facilities look like.

My chiro/soft tissue doc was contacted about being on hand for the gaymes to treat the victims. He knows enough about @ to know that if he gets known among local affiliates he'll have a lifetime supply of fools..err patients constantly fucking themselves up across broad modal domains.

Re: The couch thread
You are right about @fit knowing how to market themselves over the internet. Even the smallest garage gyms have some kind of decent looking blog which is regularly update with photos and other material. However @fitters often go completely over the top by posting videos of ridiculous workouts with extremely shitty form.milosz wrote:Of all the stupid shit CF does, this is one thing I think they (often) get right. I guess in those cases no publicity is better than posting some fucked up video about someone doing Tran.
The gin must have been really strong yesterday. So strong in fact that Couch has been unable to come up with another crazy circuit workout. Today's @fit WOD:Icarus wrote:Todays Xfit endurance workout:

what's with that gristle you posted up today? she'd grind a pecker into dogmeat.

If you're training for a 24 hour thing, this might be a worthwhile idea. I'm not exactly sure why it's superior to a 240 minute run at 2 in the morning, but whatever.Icarus wrote:Todays Xfit endurance workout:

Except that 99.999% people on that site aren't. So you're being sleep deprived for no reason, and therefore it's stupid.

Agreed. Also, choosing to do anything for 24 hours requires planning versus the typical WADs they do. No one can do that kind of workout at a drop of a hat unless they got no job or other commitments.kreator wrote:If you're training for a 24 hour thing, this might be a worthwhile idea. And you're right, it's not superior substitute for a steady late-night run to help train things like proprioception in the dark, but I could potentially see someone trying to stay awake for the whole time during the 50 minute "rest" to get familiar with the feeling of being tired as fuck while remembering to keep moving.

Re: The couch thread
that 24 hour workout is nearly the exact opposite of the successful training strategies used by ultra distance competitors. most of whom train pretty much like marathon runners or distance cyclists, just a little more. and more focused on the mental acclimation to extreme boredom, staying alert while in a groove and dealing with the time altering effects of darkness.

Re: The couch thread
Most elite distance runners don't even have to worry about sleep deprivation or darkness. With the exception of a couple of ultras, all the elites will be finished well before dark. Then there are multiday races, but most of the big names don't participate in those.Charismatic megafauna wrote:that 24 hour workout is nearly the exact opposite of the successful training strategies used by ultra distance competitors. most of whom train pretty much like marathon runners or distance cyclists, just a little more. and more focused on the mental acclimation to extreme boredom, staying alert while in a groove and dealing with the time altering effects of darkness.
