Besides jacking up my laptop, that endurance link had nuggets of knowledge.
when programming for a triathlete, the athlete is
essentially competing in four sports: CrossFit, running,
biking and swimming.
The general prescription for the multi-sport athlete is to
again perform four to six CrossFit workouts per week.
In this case, however, supplementation will include two
workouts per sport per week maximum. Furthermore,
due to the number of sports that are being trained simultaneously,
we prescribe performing no more than one to
two stamina-based workouts per week—maximum—as
well.

So the CFE "prescription" for a triathlete is to do @fit and not run, bike or swim very much. Let me know when that produces a win at Kona or a professional contract for a cyclist.tough old man wrote:Besides jacking up my laptop, that endurance link had nuggets of knowledge.when programming for a triathlete, the athlete is

Well, to be fair, if Macca had known that by switching to CFE and having a 350lb BS he could have dominated Kona this year ..... oh waitShafpocalypse Now wrote:Indeed.

I’d tell him I can’t train him. An athlete like that is such a specialist that it would take me 2-3 years just to get him moving correctly enough to handle what I wanted to do to him. If I had 2-3 years and we could change his nutrition, and put some size and strength on him, all the while he still could move efficiently, then I would never let him do an unnecessary mile or minute of training again. Unfortunately, he probably wouldn’t be able to wrap his head around that, and have a break down, and secretly go out and swim/bike/run real long. I can’t give you his code for training because they are all different, but I can tell you he would not only not survive with me but would not win Kona if I only had a year.

These guys are awesome. It's not that they COULDN'T train these people ...it's just that they need YEARS to do it...and since no athlete is willing to do that....Crossfit trainers are never put to the test and can schlep off with their hubris intact.kreator wrote:If Chris McCormack came to you and said "I want to win Kona this year (again)" how would you train him?Yes I Have Balls wrote:Well, to be fair, if Macca had known that by switching to CFE and having a 350lb BS he could have dominated Kona this year ..... oh waitShafpocalypse Now wrote:Indeed.

Yeah, that Connor Martin has supposedly done CrossFit for years since he was 14 or something like that. Apparently it's not enough because he didn't make the CF games when he tried to qualify.Dan Martin wrote: Has anybody ever trained CrossFit 2-3 years continuously? All those people who keep saying "oh just wait until real CF athletes start doing this from a young age, wait until they dominate everyone" -- yeah, right.

Already got a shout-out to the couch thread in the comments: http://www.slate.com/id/2281700/
Hello to our new friends from Slate I guess - if any read this far.
Article was meh... not nearly as much fun stuff as the NYT article a while back; no remarks on Couch's physique or anything. But these days they're keeping him locked away like some sort of drunken, senile uncle so it's not surprising.

It's great when they use anecdotal evidence to support their claims, but when someone fails (repeatedly sometimes) - it's never the fucking programs fault.

I'm sick of @F
We have 3 now at the gym. I was wearing my vibrams and swinging a 'bell around so obviously he thought I was kindred, he didn't notice I was doing skillful work with no slop.
Seriously, I'm just fucking sick of arguing about it. Weak, skinny @Fers seem to breed like maggots on the corpse of legit S&C principles.

Its a marketing juggernaut and clueless people who think they are getting a great workout by working themselves to the bone constantly while trainers don't correct bad form, encourage speed over technical precision and who think laying on the floor looking like they just got hit by a truck is the end to a solid workout.
I am ashamed of myself for ever doing it, encouraging it and taking part in it... I should have known better and I regret it.
Now we are seeing sports teams use CF to get ready for the season??? For an untrained HS kid that may work short-term but it will do more harm than good in the long term.
