I see no major issue with that, and they will keep the spirit of the gaymes there with the smaller sponsors that have been there since day one, the individuality of each competitor with their name and affiliation, along with the Reebok logo on it.

Numbered uniforms! Of course! I'm sure the numbers will be bigger than the R@@bok/@F logo for surely, and so EASY to see from a distance! The comments show the growing distaste for the R@@bok infection.Ever had trouble figuring out who is who when watching a CrossFit competition? This year, we’re adding numbered uniforms to remove all doubt. Last year, more than 130,000 people tuned in to the live Web cast. This year, we’ve had nearly 2 million absolute unique visitors and more than 30 million page views on the Game site since the Open started.
Having numbered uniforms is essential to give fans the ability to track the competition. We’ve worked closely with Reebok to create a look and fit that works for our sport. For months now, they’ve been meeting with top athletes, designing materials, colors, styles, cuts, and variety that fit the CrossFit athlete. Sure, we’ll miss some of the craziness and creativity of the old outfits, but the gains for spectating are surely worth it.

LMFAO! They're putting the "Masters" competition in the fucking parking lot.First and most important, the competitions are going to be epic. Men, women and teams will share the track and stadium venues at the Home Depot Center. Masters athletes will have their own venue for competition (a temporary stadium in Lot 17), and will be going throughout the weekend.

Re: The couch thread
Uniforms are a very smart move. Reebok isn't marketing to @Fers. The real money lies in growing this enterprise enough to attract outside viewers, which naturally leads to sponsors. The casual dude drinking beer and watching The Ocho on Saturday would take a bunch of shirtless faggots flopping around a bar for the freak show we know it to be. But adding a uniform gives it a look of legitimacy. Reebok can then take footage from the Gaymes of @Fers in their apparel and market it to the masses (wear Reebok--> look like this). Score one for the Reebok marketing department.Captain Quack wrote:Hahaha. Apologetics for the uniforms:

Dale Saran wrote:Re: Congrats to Graham - Reebok Sponsorship
It's always entertaining to listen to the experts on this thing (Yes, Jason Ashman, I'm talking about you). I don't recall you being in on the drafts of the agreement I was in on, but good on you for "knowing" and "explaining" it's ins and outs to all of us - who actually helped negotiate and draft it. Right now, I think I hold the only execute copy (on CF's side) of it in my file cabinet.
Let the "sell out" cries come. Whatever. We've been approached by dozens of companies offering massive amounts of cash to buy up affiliates, or regions, or other aspects, and all have been politely rejected. I still have the rejection letter I was asked to edit to a multi-million dollar TV deal from a major production company a few years back. And the "wheelbarrows of cash" mantra is always funny to me. Always written by people who have exactly zero experience in business negotiations. There was no giant check handed over to CF. None. I know, I was standing there at the signing with Coach, Reebok's Chairman, and their attorneys. Didn't happen.
And just to prove how little the naysayers know, Reebok and Adidas are owned by the same parent company. THEY (as in the owners of both companies) made the decision to select the marriage for CrossFit and Reebok - not Adidas.
As to the original point of the thread - I was there when Graham signed his sponsorship deal (as in at Reebok's HQ, not in the room). Graham is a great guy and ambassador, as well as being very conscientious about trying to represent himself, CF, and now Reebok, as well.
As to how this came to be - it's quite simple (mostly). Reebok HQ had some CF'ers who were high up in the food chain. They basically brought the idea together quickly and Reebok's management clearly was enthralled by the Games. Now they're the title sponsor. I have not received any "direction" from them, nor has anyone at HQ, about how to run CF - notwithstanding Mr. Ashman's claims that it is inevitable and that you all shouldn't kid yourselves. Reebok wants to be associated with our brand - and I may not care for "toning shoes" or some of their other products - but so what? They're the first company that's really put up or shut up when it comes to sponsoring CF and elevating it and being willing to stand behind it.
What I don't get is that no one was b#itching about Under Armour and its plastic-y shirts or shoes when they became a sponsor. No one thought the sky was falling then. But now because it's "Reebok" - the world is ending. Talk about amusing. And hypocritical. But the more important point is that there is NO "perfect" sponsor, whom everyone in CF is going to like or believe "fits" what we are, but it's time to grow up a little bit and join the adults at the big table for serious conversation. Reebok has shown they are committed to elevating our sport and athletes to a level that no one else was willing to - in short, they were bold and "got" our vision - and they have gotten behind it. As far as I'm concerned, that puts them way ahead of almost every other company we've spoken with. And I always think of it this way - what's more likely to happen: CrossFit(ters) to become "Reebok-ified" or Reebok to become more "CrossFit-ified"? The Games was streamed free last year and it is not a cheap event to put on, in terms of money or man-hours for CF. It could consume the company as it grows. We needed a sponsor for it - anyone with any business sense could see that. Voila. And Reebok agreed to sponsor while letting us control every aspect of it - i.e. running the event OUR way - and went way further in terms of their commitment to CF and CF athletes. They LOVE us and they genuinely want CF to help them remake their image from the Olivia Newton John, step-aerobic image that they can't seem to shake from the 80s, into something authentic and about fitness. Read up on this company (and their origins), you might be surprised (first company to sponsor an African American - Jesse Owens at the 1936 Berlin Olympics). They also dig what we've done in terms of elevating and empowering women in fitness. I'm not embarrassed, ashamed, or concerned about our relationship with them at all.
End of my rant.

Re: The couch thread
This should not be applauded, it's JUST FUCKING EXERCISE.
http://games.crossfit.com/features/never-stop-trying
http://games.crossfit.com/features/never-stop-trying
Are ELEEEET @Fers leading the way to a new breed of stupid? Apparently so.Heather Scaglione separated her right shoulder in the “Amanda” workout as she struggled to crank out muscle-ups. She carried on after using the pull up rig to “coerce” her shoulder back into position. You read that right. She popped her shoulder back in right there on the Rogue rig. Heather is no slouch, and though I had no experience with her determination prior to the weekend, her grit is not in doubt today. I think everyone assumed her injury would keep her from participating in the final workout. Her place in the standings was such that even a 1st place finish wouldn’t propel her high enough for a spot in Carson, so it seemed logical for her to sit out with the injury. Nope.
Could she row with one arm? She tried and finished the row. Could she do burpees with one arm? She tried and finished the burpees. The well of emotion was beginning to build. Certainly, the 35-pound dumbbell ground to overhead would be too much. Certainly, she would bow out gracefully to immense applause. Not this chick.
To the profound amazement of all watching – crowd, judges, volunteers and athletes – this girl grabbed the dumbbells, painfully power-cleaned them to her shoulders, and gave it a try. The press-out of each rep was painful to watch. I can’t imagine how painful it was for Heather. With medical personnel ready, and head judges watching very closely, she completed all 40 reps. Tears now filled the eyes of those watching, streaming down faces of some. Would she even consider the 50 toes-to-bar? Time was running out on the clock, and her place in our hearts was secured. Why would she even try?
Games athletes are a special breed. As a coach and CrossFitter, it’s pretty easy to tell the difference between a Games-quality athlete and every other athlete. Games athletes don’t quit. Ever. Even when it seems logical, understandable, and expected, they do not quit. They have pushed their bodies to the limit before, and they’ll do it again. Obstacles are only that. They aren’t insurmountable barriers to these folks, they’re hurdles to be negotiated. The rest of us dial it back a bit, happy with every personal record. But I promise you we don’t drain the tank like these folks. They have another gear, physically and mentally, that the rest of us choose not to utilize. We believe it exists, because we see it in these athletes.
Heather stood there under the bar, tears now rolling down her face, the grimaces of pain evident in every heaving breath. She shifted into that gear. She took her right hand in her left, and lifted her limp arm to the bar. The crowd waited.
With her grip secured, we all held our collective breath as she hung there, testing her shoulder. As her feet rose in the air, our disbelief transformed to amazement. Her toes touched the bar! The roar of the crowd once-again cemented that feeling of CrossFit firmly in my heart and mind. She continued lifting her toes to the bar, over and over until time ran out. Stopping only to wince with pain, breathe, and lift her arm to the bar again. When she fell to the floor, and finally was able to receive the medical attention she needed, the crowd erupted with applause.
I suppose a disclaimer needs to be added here. If Heather was my athlete, I would never ask or expect her to go to these lengths with an obvious injury. And I’m not applauding her decision to continue with an injury. I am applauding her absolute commitment to a task, and her unwillingness to quit without first giving it a try. I stood there next to a fellow judge, and kept saying, ”OK, that’s enough, get her off the field,” and other similar things. But I was among the first to begin applauding loudly as she was helped off the field by the medical staff when time ran out.
Melissa and Heather had no idea what their bodies would let them do if they didn’t try. It’s a lesson all of us can learn from. You’ll never know what you can do until you try. If you try and fail, at least you tried. If you never try, you’ll never know.
Say goodbye to ever doing muscle-ups again, probably dips too. Maybe you even earned a surgery and potential future shoulder replacement! Hope it was worth it to be written up on the gaymes site!"He that fights and runs away, may turn and fight another day; but he that is in battle slain, will never rise to fight again." -- Tacitus

Man, those people are so tough when exercising.
If I didn't know better, I'd think they weren't tough for one second in their daily lives, which is why they feel a need to show how tough they are while exercising.
But I know that's not true b/c most Crossfitters are specops/LEO warfighters.

I've played rugby hurt, but not injured. Well once and it took about 3 times as long to heal.
You would think with their emphasis on community, some one would say "Listen up Speedball, calm the fuck down, sit down, have a gatorade and stop. You need to fucking heal up". But no, they cheer them on and congradulate them for mindless heroics that accomplish what?

Funny you brought up the rings.
Over on another forum, a @Fer brought up the fact that he knew a woman who was training to be able to hold an iron cross. When someone asked if she was a gymnast, the answer was no. When asked if the woman in question was ever a gymnast, the answer was "no".
The gist of it was that the amount of strength and stability necessary to hold an iron cross might, MAYBE, be maintained if one was a small girl who could do it and then kept that skill current as she grow older, but the number of women who could train up to hold an iron cross at the age of 40ish was as close to zero as any probability might get.
