Hobo With a Shotgun
T200, I think, mentioned this was being released a while back. It was OnDemand for free on one of the shitty channels that comes with the cable package that I have pretty much only to watch boxing on HBO.
Holy... I'm not overly familiar with Rutger Hauer films.
Pretty intense, worth a watch if you're into that sort of thing I suppose.
I'm honestly not sure how to review this film just yet.

Rutger Hauer had 2 highwater marks in his career.

This cannot stand. Virtually all of Hauer's filmography is a high water mark. It's hard to pick just one great film of his:Shafpocalypse Now wrote:Rutger Hauer had 2 highwater marks in his career.

Surviving The Game?
Fatherland?
Wanted:Dead Or Alive?
Ladyhawke?
Buffy The Vampire Slayer?
Sweet Baby Gorilla Jeebus, where the fuck is his Lifetime Achievement Oscar?
Flesh+Blood may be one of the greatest movies that almost no one has ever seen:

I'm with the Grilla. One of the most underrated actors of all time. IMO, got stereotyped along the way, and became the go to guy when you needed a psychopath or the lead in a sci-fi film or anything else that's considered offbeat.
Granted, I think he jumped at whatever came along to pay the bills, or maybe he just liked to act and didnt give a fuck what it was. With the right chances, he could have had a career as respected as Nicholson or DeNiro or any of the other offbeat intense guys out there.

What about the Hitcher?! Fucking sick movie, shit scared me good as a kid. (Sean Bean did an awesome job on the remake.WildGorillaMan wrote:This cannot stand. His portrayel of Albert Speer in the mini series "Inside the Third Reich" is why I read both the book it was from and Speer's "The Spandau Diary's." Speer was an interesting man and Hauer captured that well.

Re: Hobo With a Shotgun
Back in the pre-Internet days there was no imdb, no Rotten Tomatoes, etc. The only buzz about film was in print media, and when you went to the store to rent videotapes, you could only tell so much from the box art and the plot synopsis.
Seeing Rutger Hauer billed on a straight-to-VHS film was the Gold Seal: certain proof that you were going to get your money's worth.

Listen WildNegroman, I am aware of RH's body of work. In fact, I have a copy of Flesh and Blood right here on my desk. But nothing compared to Blood of Heroes. I'll take the lambasting for Blade Runner, but, Blood of Heroes, there is a movie amongst movies, my friends.

I could have been here all day, I needed to keep it brief. "The Hitcher is great" is right up there with "breathing feels good" for Pointing Out The Obvious.

Yes, but it is his finest role, IMO.

Surviving the Game is the best version of the The Most Dangerous Game ever. And there are a lot of versions of that book.WildGorillaMan wrote: Surviving The Game?
Great movie.
And hell yes The Hitcher is an all-time classic for sure.
Flesh + Blood is possibly the best film of it's year (1985 maybe?). Deal with it.

Re: Hobo With a Shotgun
Hey Baffled, you can start with what the fucking movie is about, without giving everything away. Fuck's sakes

Re: Hobo With a Shotgun
What is Rutgar's Blind Swordsman flick? Loved it. Hitcher was incredible too.

Get the fuck outta here Furman! We built a whole movie franchise around you in a previous thread and you didn't have the decency to praise our efforts and appreciate the attention you obviously didn't deserve.

Blind Fury...that's one of his few movies that I don't like.

Great movie.
Re: Hobo With a Shotgun
I will always hate him for what he did with Starship Troopers. He admits to trying to make an anti military statement with a book he admits to not reading all of. His humour is great, he should make comedies and stay away from great novels.Schlegel wrote:Ah, yes, Paul Verhoeven. Always reliable for a subtle exploration of the Human spirit.WildGorillaMan wrote:

At least their is a new version coming out that is suppossed to be more faithfull to the book.

Re: Hobo With a Shotgun
Couldn't finish it. I felt like I was betraying humanity or smoking crack or something. It was terrible. When I was younger I watched Pink Flamingo's on acid. Hobo with a Shotgun took me back to that experience for some reason...not cool, man.
