Black Adder was bad ass.
The Young Ones are my fave Brit com with Black Adder Goes Forth a close 2nd. " They had spears and fruit, we had Maxim guns. We made a fruit salad."
Both shows had a young Dr. House.
Last night we watched the original Brit version of Death at a Funeral. Real good.

Bravo.
I got all my BBC in my formative years from PBS with my maternal grandfather. It's also why the fourth Dr. is who immediately come to mind when someone says Dr. Who.

Yep PBS! We had 3 to 4 tv stations when I lived in Upstate NY, depending on the weather and the PBS station out of Syaracuse came in about the best. 3-2-1 Contact!, McNeal- Leharer at 7pm and Doctor Who at 7:30.
First time I saw Doctor Who it was Tom Baker, I was 6 and was instantly hooked. That's where I developed a love of story over FX in Sci Fi and most other things because face it. Old Doctor Who had FX like a public access station. Star Wars it was not but the stories were so good.
I still watch a shitload of PBS, we have WETA UK here, all Brit shit all the time and it's usually better than BBC America. My eldist is developing an appriciation and affenity for Brit TV and seems interested in Brit History when I do my little mini lectures. Kid loves Robin Hood, the Young Ones, Monty Python and knows very well who Richard the Lionheart was.
I'll hit him with some Black Adder in a couple of years when he can better get it. (Allthogh I did ban Family Guy and American Dad because I would catch him watching it and laughing at some very adult shit.)

By the same token, they have Dr Who, they have several crime series and long running comedies that are in the high teens as far as seasons. There's also a couple Scottish ones (commence panty sopping) like Reebus and Taggart that had good long runs. I think it comes down to the writing being flat out better. Even when the show is cheesy like MI5 or slow paced like Misommer Murders, the writing is a notch up form what we get here.
Second factor...it's a little island, the number of brit actors is small and it seems like and ensemble theater co, you see the same people over and over.
Speaking of random foreign things ....Durham County? Jesus that shite is fucked up.

The Comic Strip Presents! Many of the crew from The Young Ones.

So that makes me potentially twice as good."
