UFC 151 is cancelled b/c Henderson fucked up his knee and Jones refused to fight his replacement, The People's Champion, Chael P. Sonnen.

This is apparently the first time a Champion has refused to fight a replacement. It also comes on the heels of Jones publically stating he didn't want to fight Machida b/c the PPV numbers of their first fight were too low and he "wouldn't make any money" on the rematch.

So Chael P. Sonnen says he'll step in right now, with 8 days notice, to fight Jones...he even says he'll GIVE JONES HIS PURSE if Jones will take the fight....and Jones refuses. Jones's trainer, Greg "Mr. Conservative" Jackson said it wouldn't be "smart" to fight Sonnen without an entire camp to get ready.

That's funny because a week or two ago, Jones said he'd easily crush Sonnen. Now he needs several months to specifically prepare for him?

EVERYONE thinks Jones will smash Sonnen easily. Why not just take the damn fight, smash Sonnen, get paid, and set up a huge rematch down the road????

Instead teh whole event is cancelled. I"m sure the fighters on the undercard are thrilled at losing their paycheck b/c Jonny Bones Jones won't fight a middleweight.

Bones hasn't taken nearly enough blows to the head to believe Sonnen.

I don't really see what he has to gain by fighting chael, a 185'er moving up a weight class, who got ko'd in his last fight.

Not a good look, but probably smart business. And also precisely the problem with combat sports in general these days.

Not only has this screwed over all the fans that bought tickets, non refundable airfare, took off work, made arrangements, etc... but think of all the fighters. Fighters that put in full camps, flew people in that helped them trains, etc. By the time I am actually fight, I spend close to 20k between corners, flights, expenses, coaches, etc... and then to have the whole show cancelled because ONE guy didn't want to fight. This ONE guy that had trained an entire camp, who was the CHAMP and at the top of his weight class, who was going to fight someone who didn't do the camp, and was fighting UP a weight class.

The problem is, you've got this Greg Jackson mentality soaking into MMA, where you don't do ANYTHING risky even if it pisses everyone off, makes you look like a bitch, etc.

What's the WORST that could have happened here--Jones gets smoked by Sonnen? Number 1, that would NOT happen. Number 2, if it DID happen, imagine the build up to the rematch! Jones would go back and smash a few other guys again (which he's already easily done) and then fight Sonnen to get his belt back. Everyone loves the underdog, a champion who loses his belt and scrambles back up the ladder to get it back. AND against someone like Chael who is deeply loved and deeply hated by an equal number of people. Hero vs. Heel. Classic.

Instead, Jackson thinks Jones needs a "full fight camp" to fight a mouthy middleweight who has lost his last few fights.

Now we'll be seeing a new Hero vs. Heel, but Jones is no longer the Hero.

Chael's stock just shot up.

Fuck Jon Jones, Fuck Greg Jackson, and fuck cancelling the entire event.

Should have scrapped the main fight, put it up for a free TV event and added another prelim or two, so the fighters who prepped could at least get paid, as Lauzon said.

Good on Sonnen for offering to step up and put on a show.
