Everyone agrees that the guy who sent the email is a tool. The problem is with her fanning the smell of burning martyr from her own fat ass in everyone's direction. She also purports to ordain herself as a Joan of Arc figure, brave and inspirational enough to lead the charge against cyber-bullying to protext children. It's bullshit, Syaigh.

Its not bullshit. Again, her reaction may have been overblown, but the bottom line is this:

Many people, not just assholes, feel it is not only their right, but their privilege to express their negative opinions about others, to their faces, for no other reason than they think these other folks "need to know". I know all of you have see this. It has become the social norm to criticize and/or insult others you disagree with or have a conflict with. It happens in the workplace, it happens socially, it happens in politics, and it happens on-line, a lot.

It shouldn't happen. Its rude and insulting. And it does jack shit for making anyone more productive, happy, or willing to work together. And for women, the criticism is usually in the context of her appearance.

I happen to know quite a few heavy women who do some of the hardest jobs imaginable and do a damn good job at it. And I know that they get criticized by others on a regular basis simply because of their body size. If you just cast that guy as an asshole and move on, you're ignoring the bigger problem. That guy probably isn't a nut job, he's probably just some regular arrogant fucktard who decided that his opinion was more valuable than a woman's emotional well-being. And he's one of millions.

Signaid's point is an excellent one. I see this behavior on a daily basis. I'm not sure how it became this way really. There's no real repercussions for boorish behavior anymore. Perhaps it all got started when it was decided that everyone should be winners and empowerment was the best course of action instead of discipline. People can say the absolute most outrageous shit and get away with it. I used to get so fucking amped up over this type of behavior but now I'm just weary.
