Haven't read the article due to password, but US driven creationist nonsense is as much of a risk to the progress of mankind as any Islamic idealogy at the moment by virtue of the fact that the US has more influence. Science should be rigourously tested but never dismissed, unless you think a return to the days of the Inquisition represents progress.

It's really only an issue in a small set of situations, most related to biological science. Stem cell research, the beginning of life, etc. no one is seriously arguing the earth is flat or that the sun orbits the earth.odin wrote:Haven't read the article due to password, but US driven creationist nonsense is as much of a risk to the progress of mankind as any Islamic idealogy at the moment by virtue of the fact that the US has more influence.

You sure about that? The bible says the sun orbits the earth afterall... http://creationwiki.org/Bible_says_the_ ... k.Origins)nafod wrote:... no one is seriously arguing the earth is flat or that the sun orbits the earth.
And even if we say you are right, is arguing that all life was created 6,000 years ago in exactly the form you see today any better, or any less destructive on young minds??

ZOMG the Bible uses poetic language, we should abandon EVERYTHING EVEN REMOTELY ASSOCIATED WITH IT.

Get back to me when Creationists are suicide bombing paleontology exhibits in other countries and we'll talk.odin wrote:Haven't read the article due to password, but US driven creationist nonsense is as much of a risk to the progress of mankind as any Islamic idealogy at the moment by virtue of the fact that the US has more influence. Of all the problems that are barely problems, Christian creationists must be included in that list. An annoyance, yes - a problem, not much. I used to know a lot of fundamentalist creationists and hardly any of them believed in a young earth. They thought that G_d was the clockmaker and that man didn't ascend from apes but other than that I never saw anything that was anti-science. In fact I encountered multiple Christian fundamentalists who were scientists.Schlegel wrote:Get back to me when Creationists are suicide bombing paleontology exhibits in other countries and we'll talk.odin wrote:Haven't read the article due to password, but US driven creationist nonsense is as much of a risk to the progress of mankind as any Islamic idealogy at the moment by virtue of the fact that the US has more influence. In a western democracy, they will never get enough clout to be more than an annoyance.

Are you saying there are places where the bible is flat-out incorrect, in error, not trueFat Cat wrote:ZOMG the Bible uses poetic language, we should abandon EVERYTHING EVEN REMOTELY ASSOCIATED WITH IT.
BTW, not sure why this is now password protected. It was about Muslims in Turkey. Sounded very much like Texas
