We recently got a galaxy sII and a galaxy note. We haven't put them down. My previously attached at my hip iTouch hasn't been charged in a week and is the baby's new favorite diaper change toy.

Got a Samsung at the end of 2012. It was a total piece of garbage, crashed constantly, didn't reliably send or receive texts, dropped in battery power from 60% to nothing in 5 minutes.
Went back to I phone (got a 5), works great no problems. My wife and daughter have I phone 4, no issues at all.

I'm always going to have a Mac desktop...what say you to moving photos, music, contacts etc. between the two? I did some surfing today to address this and it seems one popular method is using Google's cloud service. I can't explain why but I'm not a fan of this cloud stuff. I get it...if you've got multiple devices but if you don't I don't like having my dic pics out in never never land.
I'm still getting everything switched over.

I just keep my dick picks on my hard drive or I send 'em to EZ and Syaigh.

I appear to not be receiving text messages again. Just found that out. Again. Maybe I need to drop Verizon, but it's the only reliable carrier out here. Until now, at least.

Basic fact: Carriers will always blame the handset, even when their network is clearly borked.

Man I still just have a Gz One Verizon cell phone that I inherited from my uncle when he died a few years back.

Legit knowledge. Seems my texts were backed up ~20 minutes or so. Not a big deal as long as they actually go through.

DARTH,
Don't do it. I need my phone for work purposes, and the social aspect of it all is really just a side note.

Email, certain web stuff (like RSS feeds), social media etc are all imperative to my job. If that wasn't a fact of life, I probably wouldn't have gone down this rabbit hole. As a gadget geek, that's not a good thing.

I'm in Finland, have a 4s and none of those problems. I thought you were talking about the 5.

I'm more bummed about the problems I'm having with OSX since upgrading to Mountain Lion.

No doubt overall Apple isn't as tight a ship as in the days of yore. I never had to go online to find a fix to an OS problem before, or had my computer or device just crash.

Switched from Android to 4s a year ago and was instantly pleased. So far the 4s has had a much smoother interface than my droid. I'm still hearing android users complain that their phones slow down a lot over the first month or two. My wife has the Razr and this has been an issue.

I use my phone at work for keeping medical protocols, med lists, GPS, and occasionally translator. Primarily, though, I use it to keep in touch with friends and family since you can get kinda distant when you work 24-48 hr shifts. Having a phone that is reliable and smooth in terms of he above needs and basic media consumption tool is imperative. That being said, the note 2 looks sweet.

Indeed. Besides when they are staring at their phones, it good for a better look.

I recently switched from blackberry to iPhone 5. I haven't had any problems at all. No crashes, no dropped calls (surprising, as I've got AT&T) and no problems with texts or emails. Even the non google maps app has been solid.

In a related not from Google News... someone [a company or country] bought ONE million Blackberry's. So there stock is jumping.
I've heard the new Blackberry's rock BTW.

my nigs, talk to me about data plans. I gotta dump Sprint and my dumbphone. Sprint's coverage around here sucks. I never have signal when I need it.

So, how does one estimate how many GB of data they'll need? I hate people, so rarely use voice minutes; but the innernets I like. How does one estimate how much data to buy?

The guy at Verizon said the average user rarely goes over 2 gigs per day. I stuck with my same plan because I never go over, but I'm usually on wifi so that obviously changes things a bit.

My friend Andy is 6'6" and goes about 380. He got tired of his Iphone so he bought an Ipad mini and uses Google VOI phone. The thing looks pretty much in scale to the rest of him. Data only plan is working well for him.

Got a Galaxy S3 a week ago, to replace a lost Infuse. The S3 is better than the Infuse. It's a little slimmer, the rounded corners make it seem smaller (though it isn't). It's a super-nice phone, though I have not really had time to explore it. Two things that jump out right away as light years better with the S3 than the old Infuse are picture-taking, and the GPS interface:
  • The old Infuse had a huge lag between pressing the button and taking the pic, maybe as much as a full second. The S3 takes pics instantly, and has a burst setting for multi shots at a time, sports-camera style. Gorgeous pic quality, too.
  • The GPS talks to you while you're driving, Garmin style. "In 1 mile, turn right onto Elm Street." Much easier to use while driving than the Infuse, which you had to look at. Droid navigation has been excellent for at least the past year, after being crappy a couple years ago.
I also think the keyboard for txting is better, though I don't have a concrete reason why.

By the way, work issued me a Blackberry Torch a couple years ago. For the one thing I actually need to it do, answering emails, that thing is excellent. It is so good at that, that I almost don't mind being forced to keep track of two phones. UI, keyboard, auto-correct etc, everything works great for emailing, and both the touchscreen and pull-out keyboard work great. Also use it constantly for joining conf calls on speaker: very reliable. Not as good for txting or pic taking, but I don't need it for that. I actually like this phone, god help me.
