Ben's American Wisdom

Post by Turdacious »

Ben is an Ethiopian immigrant I know. Probably about 35-40, will be applying for citizenship in about six months.

What Ben likes about America:
Two things. First, if you work hard you can make money. And if you don't cause trouble the police leave you alone.

Ben has worked/works a lot of jobs-- in stores, as a busboy, valet, and as a semiskilled laborer. When people ask him questions that annoy him:

When Ben first moved to the area, he lived in subsidized housing while taking courses in maintenance. What he remembers:
People there no wash clothes, no wash sheets. I said 'this is America?' Not even in Ethiopia people live like this.
He did not live there long.

Ben wore a Romney hoodie before the election. These weren't popular with anyone in the NoVA/DC area.
People ask me, 'you're black, why you support Romney?' I say I don't care about color, I like him. Why I have to support the other guy?

Ben has yet to understand that the US is an evil Police State. If he works hard, he can send kids to college so they can enlighten him.

That's too expensive. All he needs to do is have is piece of shit car breakdown in the right neighborhood and the squealing piglets will be round to welcome him.

LOL. You do realize that Ethiopia is a third world country right? Things are a little different there.

Just because he left a shithole doesnt mean we should start grading America on a bell curve.

Which advanced police state does the US compare to?

I dunno. If I had to choose one.... I like the comparison to East Germany best.

None. We compare what we are against what we say we are. If you want to start grading on the curve we dont fair so well in a number of other metrics including incarceration rates....so police state? Not yet. Prison state? Oh hell yeah
