My point was that, even though 'Hard Style' does sound like the name of some brokeback nudie mag, it might be the case that GS saps strength, since athletes who were anything but push-overs have suggested that this is the case. re. Doing GS-style lifts faster for a CV workout: From the perspective of somebody who uses KBs only as assistance work for oly lifting, GS style give me bad habits. I have never had any GS jerk technique to speak of, so I can't talk about that, but when I have played with GS technique on my snatches I have ended up using all sorts of things - more arm pull through the corckscrew, less hips, more back - that don't do me any good on the platform.
This would probably matter a lot less for somebody who doesn't oly lift, but I'm not sure that it wouldn't matter at all.

Corkscrew refers to the way you rotate the bell out from the lockout and use a rotational motion that you follow on the way down. The point is to not fight the bell.
Coming back up it can go however you want. Some punch through and some go around. Both work. The critical part is where the bell ends up at lockout. There is a specific way to catch it that isn't very descriptable in online conversation.

BTW- The corkscrew is on the way down & it does save the grip. If it's combined with the shallow legs straight rebounded off the goin area (Your hand and arm not the KB), a dip under the bell as it reaches its apex at the top & if your have the right rythum down your can put up more numbers.
Fats-what you're describing is the hand in glove technique. while it does does have a cork scew like feel it's more your hand moving to catch the bells momentum.

Thanks for the clarification. I had always used a corkscrew motion on the upswing, and assumed this was what people were discussing.
