Vedder is a legit nice guy. We have a mutual friend. Have only met him once, (pick up BB game of all things) He lives in my neighborhood and has been a huge supporter of local music and arts. Other than that, keeps himself to himself from what i can tell.

That said. He is a terrible singer and Pearljam was the death-knell of decent music in Seattle.

Never said he might not be personally a decent dude, just that him being allowed to lead the band and his soapboxing really knocked off their shine for me.

As to Seattle Rawk..

Like Jim Morrison.
Someone finally mentions a name in this thread that I recognize.

Yes. In Oly 1980-90, Seattle from then to now.

The only band I miss besides Soundgarden and My Sister's Machine..was TAD...

O shit yeah! Tad was great. I thought they were from somewhere else, just on Sub Pop?

8 Way Santa!

So did you see Soundgarden when they were just as much Bauhausish as Sabbathlike?

My favourite band from 91- 94 but my favourite album of their's is a toss between Louder Than Love and Ultramega OK and I used to run my metal friends off with Screaming Life.

I derail more shit than the Maquee!

You bring the TNT though.

One thing I miss about the PNW-- everybody toured through there, and the crowds were better than you find most places.

Yes!!! Early Soundgarden, was really good, Chris hadn't figured out how to run that crazy voice yet, so it got lost in the soup. They were not as technical but deep Sabathy feel.

Soundgarden was one of those that played outstanding in small venues, as Turd refers, the crowds in the PNW are both insanely intense and remarkably civil.

Yes...saw a couple early shows including Nirvana, pre- Bleach. I hated them and bought Nevermind a couple years later w/o knowing it was the same band, they we rte that forgettable.

Tad just moved here I think from the midwest. his car came up for sale on Craigslist back in 2009-10.

I lived in Decatur Indiana for a few months in the Fall of 90 (Hell! except for all the pussy my long hair got me.) and the few Rawker types I knew out there were all about Tad, that's how I got into them.

For the record...I liked Axl when his voice was good, I grok that opiates are better than singing and I'm sorry he got fat and gross...but that is the way the cookie-dough-ice cream crumbles up in your belly button after binging all night.

The whole PNW produced a lot of good shit, not just Seattle. The Wipers, Reckless Kelly, Todd Snider, NoMeansNo, Satan's Pilgrims, Skinny Puppy, etc... Even the Kingsmen were still drawing decent crowds in the 2000's-- even though they didn't really advertise.

Decent bands could do a strictly regional tour and still make ok money.

What are the chances Skinny Puppy is playing in Portland right now? I bet good. A lot of those guys are still around I think....except the dead ones.

Didn't Pearl Jam's drummer, the one they had when they broke, quit because the rest of them were miserable? I'm sure I read that he basically said that his dream of becoming a rock star had come true, and the rest of them were ruining it because they wanted to be obscure artists.

They went through a handful of drummer. I believe what you are thinking of was a fight over the Ticketmaster boycott and things related to that.
