It hasn't been that interesting so far but I probably will watch a few more quarters before giving up on it.

Lulz at having a fucking gurney for a torn hamstring. Soccer players are such poons. We looked bad for the middle 80 mins of th game, should have lost 5-2. Still, go America, fuck Africa.

Thing is about football, they pretend to be hurt in order to gain free kicks or getting the opposition player carded it may not be in the spirit of the game, but its a part of it now. Gamesmanship exists in every sport.

To be clear, I don't think that anyone who plays or watches soccer is like "hey, you know what's great? Diving!" But in a low-scoring game, when having even one more chance on goal can decide the outcome, players are going to do everything they can to achieve that.

And diving is against the rules -- if the ref determines that a player dove, they'll ignore the "penalty" and can penalize the player who took a dive.

To my mind it's in the same league as the phantom tag at second base in baseball or nosebleed squats in various PL feds. It's against the rules, and you can say "yeah, that's kind of lame," but it's the athlete's job to try to win, not enforce the rules or look pretty.

dempsey's nose is baroque. way grittier than the schilling bloody sock episode, the most overblown example of toughness in the history of sport.

i don't see much diving in soccer. most times a guy goes down, he was genuinely taken down. what i do see is a lot of guys who then writhe and flop like an eel on the deck of a boat. that melodrama is tiresome, but for me, a good world cup game transcends it.

Ginger Beard is spot on. Soccer players are pathetic.

Wild bill, it's a matter of preference, but a game of rugby beats the game of soccer most of the time.

I'm not saying that soccer is easy but Tim Cahill just scored for Australia.

Not sure what the resistance is to the World Cup. It has everything most people in here love: day binge drinking, rabid homoerotic patriotism, and because of the host country being Brazil, chicks with dicks.

Not funny. I went to twitter and saw Tim Cahill trending and thought "Oh shit, the cabin burned...."

Soccer is an excellent sport! For the player more than the spectator, IMO.

I will admit, the pro match I went to was a good time with nutter Brit wannabes (and nutter Brits and Micks) mixed with our local MexiSalvadortanamalonricanbana soccer fans. Good time! Seriously!

But on TV, past a few minutes, I lose interest in it past things from when I assisted in a player's program.

But a lot of sports are that way for me that don't have direct combativeness or heavy shit being tossed by monsters.

Dead Man, don't get me wrong, I like soccer and World Cup is always a great show. But the display of "pain" by the players is pathetic.

the writhing is a curious phenomenon. several n. am. sports have adopted rules to punish diving. i expect fifa to remain independent and corrupt
