I like Colombia as an underdog/ dark horse pick. Read a few stories all saying it may be time to give Colombia a little more credit.

In the end, I'd lean towards the Dutch or Germans. Fuck Germany.

Good call. Tiny nation. Repping CONCACAF. Dark horse. I'm in for them over the Netherlands.

If it's down to just the big nations (excluding Columbia), yes.

I'm loving the time zone-great to watch these games at 12 in CA vs. 2 AM. I think enthusiasm will wane when this shit moves to Siberia in 2018.

Interesting (to me) factoid: Colombia is as big as France, Spain, and Portugal combined. I won't be bothered if they win, I don't see them having much chance though.

About as close to a moral victory as it gets for Costa Rica.

I like Germany to fucking smash Brazil on Tuesday, BTW.

I don't know. I had a coach once who, every time we got blown out, would say we'd scored a moral victory. Pretty sure it's when you take a crushing loss but manage not to cry.

That was a great performance by the Costa Rican defense. Navas in particular.

Success at getting past group stage:
2014 Survivors:
6/13 Europe
5/6 South America
3/4 Concacaf
2/5 Africa
0/4 Asia

This seems to be a consistent pattern over the last few Cups. The Americas deserve more spots, this is clearly.

No doubt. But to his credit he seemed to be the only guy out there with an ounce of energy-he seemed to speed up after 100 minutes.

Semi-related question: it's been interesting to note the stats on "distance covered". Most of those guys are running about about 10K per match.

How are they tracking that? Couldn't find the source. I wonder if it's an estimate. If they're wearing a fit bit or something like it you'd think we'd hear endless ads about it.

He's a hell of a player, no doubt. I find it interesting that ESPN's world cup webpages are saturated with this ad:

Not sure how he's the ideal role model for playing in high stakes games in hot weather.

I'm betting that more Brazilians die in riots tonight than Brazil scores goals against Germany.
