Officials are investigating the death of actor and comedian Robin Williams. . . . Coroner Division suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made.

Really bummed.

I think he was about as talented as it gets, between his comedic and dramatic successes.

Not to sound cold but why do people act surprised when someone famous commits suicide?

I can't come up with anybody who could do clean comedy & filthy jokes while nailing it in both comedies and dramas. Depression is a serious demon and it's a shame it got him.

I think I wore out the "Throbbing Python of Love" LP
And I was lucky enough to see him perform in San Francisco.

A true genius.

Nah. He was an addict with recent relapses and a history of depression.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

I don't know that I'd say I'm surprised. As noted, he was an alcoholic and addict with a history of depression. But I do find it sad when anyone dies that way; I find it sad when anyone finds their life so filled with suffering that their best solution is to end it. I find it especially sad when it's someone so prodigiously talented (sidebar -- I wasn't in love with his work as a whole. Some of what he did was brilliant; I thought more of what he did, especially recently, was poorly-chosen at best. But even despite that...the man had talent).

And, speaking as an alcoholic and addict with a history of depression...it scares the shit out of me.

It was his time. Obviously, in spite of fame and wealth something ate him inside. I enjoyed most of his movies.

It's very sad. I was never a huge fan of his comedy but I loved Aladdin, The Fisher King, Dead Poet's Society, and Good Will Hunting. Genius.

I wasn't super surprised when I heard the news. He always had an air of paddling just a wee too hard against a stream that I couldn't even see.

Liked to bike, and was a big Tour de France fan.

I bet he appreciated the irony of the fact that the cast of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo is happier and more well-adjusted than he was. I can hear him commenting on it now. It'd have been a good comedy piece.

also found with him was a knife with blood on the blade; he had superficial wounds to the wrists. I suppose it's possible he was also into blood play...

From AP
Authorities on Tuesday detailed how Robin Williams' took his life, saying the actor and comedian hanged himself with a belt in a bedroom of his San Francisco Bay Area home.

Marin County Sheriff's Lt. Keith Boyd said Williams was last seen alive by his wife Sunday night when she went to bed. She woke up the next morning and left, thinking he was still asleep elsewhere in the home.

Shortly after that, Williams' personal assistant came to the Tiburon home and became concerned when Williams failed to respond to knocks at a door. The assistant found the 63-year-old actor clothed and dead in a bedroom.

Boyd said all evidence indicates Williams, star of "Good Will Hunting," "Mrs. Doubtfire," "Good Morning, Vietnam" and dozens of other films, committed suicide by hanging himself. But he said a final ruling will be made once toxicology reports and interviews with witnesses are complete.
Did the deed while wife was sleeping in the same house. Somebody was in a hurry to check out.
