One 30-year-old local who gave his first name only as Carlos, didn’t hear the fatal gunfire but saw the hysteria afterwards and walked to the police tape.

“A lot of people were clapping and laughing,” he said.

“Some were saying, ‘They deserved it,’ and another was shouting at the cops, ‘Serves them right because you mistreat people!’” he said.

This week the PBA started spreading around a form for cops to sign that stated they don't want DiB at the funeral if they are killed in the line of duty. Not many signed it yet, but few had received it. I have a cousin in a tough Precint in Brooklyn and he said every single cop was planning to sign. Of course, the hope was that it was a purely symbolic act.
This is fucking awful. Things could really go bad around here.
DiBlasio has completely lost the backing of the cops. There's a video going around of cops turning their backs on him, I think at the hospital in Bed Stuy.

I wonder what effect this will have on how quickly police respond to crime in that neighborhood.

If they hate the police so much, let them live without police protection. Problem solved. No sons of Obama will die at the hands of the cops. They'll just die at the hands of the numerous thugs these black communities harbor within their communities.

If it's just a vocal minority of rabble rousers, then these areas had better stand up and take control of who does and doesn't speak for them.

Calling the police a bunch of racists thugs every day and also demanding they also protect you, seems like an odd strategy. What do they think the cops (human beings) are going to react? How many cops are going to put their lives on the line for communities that vilify them at every turn. Sounds like a perfect recipe for demoralizing a police force and creating huge "no go" zones where the natives are left to their own devices and suffering.

Dirty little secrets white hand wringers (and perhaps even non-hand wringers) wouldn't know:

a. NYPD will never 'slow it down' for any in-progress felony crime--never have, never will. Those guys will not do it.
b. The overwhelming majority of residents of 'A-House' neighborhoods (high crime areas) support the police, albeit and understandably, they do it quietly. Do they hate some practices, absolutely. But if anything, they want cops doing *more* not less. Who do you think calls 911 all day and all night in those areas? It's not Shirl and Abe in the Jewish neighborhood down the road. Those mopes in the videos are the 1%.

People protesting overwhelmingly don't hate cops. They want police held to a higher standard than they seem to be currently. The pity party NYPD union & Giuliani are throwing is unbelievable.

Ram Emmanuel's son was mugged the other night. It made the news, but of course they didn't give a description of the perps, so you know they were black. 21st Century media north of Mason-Dixon does not show black suspects on the news.

NY Post is most certainly 'pro-cop' but there's nothing to argue here and it's relevant to this thread....

The Wall Street Journal’s Jason Riley notes that homicide is the leading cause of death among young black men. FBI numbers suggest that if you are Dante de Blasio, you are 10 times more likely than Zach Emanuel to be murdered.
Normally, we wouldn’t bring the mayor’s son into arguments. But it was the mayor’s choice to use his son to advance a false narrative — one that, by the way, contributes to the distrust among cops that de Blasio was trying to deal with at his desperate press conference Monday.
There, the mayor said some of the right things about the importance of respecting the police. For young black men living in marginal communities, too often the problem is not the police but the lack of them.
That’s a conversation New York could really use right about now.

OK, people protesting overwhelmingly are going by what the media has been telling/showing them and nothing more.

Before the Garner GJ, a video of a black NYPD cop tuning up a black kid in the subway surfaced. Media and white people outrage? Zero. NYPD 'cop of the year' (Hispanic) arrested in a sting operation in Florida for attempting to traffic cocaine. Media and white people outrage? Zero. So it's not the 'higher standard' schtick.

I agree some what, but they also want zero defect policing. The Garner incident is a perfect example of this. There was no proof that there was an racial animosity in Garners arrest. The officer in charge was Black Police Officer. Nor was he choked to death. He died as a result of being a fat fuck and poor police tactics. Nothing more and nothing less.

Also, don't pass laws that you are not willing to see people directly or indirectly die over.
