Sears & Roebucks for the mother-#%*#-ing win!!!

Post by nafod »

At 2:00 PM yesterday, 23 December 2014, I received an urgent phone call at work from the wife, telling me the oven was on the fritz. Would only heat to 325 degrees. We would have no Christmas rib roast or pies or whatever else she cooks in that thing. Sweet mother of god!

Only had one beer at work party instead of getting hammered and drove home post haste to troubleshoot. Yep, baking element is not heating up. Where in the hell am I going to get that part RIGHT NOW? Tried every possible place in town, no joy. Called Sears appliance repair, and they said we could ship one and get it to me by the 26th. I explained to them that there'd be no whoville roast beast or who pudding or who hash if they didn't get that element to me. Children would cry, and their father too. They said they would do their best. The time was 4:45 PM.

UPS showed up with an element an hour ago, 4:00 PM on Christmas Eve, and after some surgery that would make an IGx doc proud, our remarkable, versatile, rugged, reliable LG glass top motherfucking oven is back in business!

So props to Sears and UPS.

I worked at UPS as a loader once over the holiday season. On Christmas Eve we did our normal thing until all the trucks were loaded. Then we went through every single truck checking every code on every package. That was one day of the year a package wasn't going to miss delivery because it ended up on the wrong truck. It actually made me proud to work there that day.

I'm sure there are not-so-great customer service stories about Sears, but damn I've hear a lot of great ones over my lifetime. I'll be sad when the last great catalog department stores completely lose out to Amazon, etc.

My wife will only purchase appliances from Sears. Customer service has been very good. As importantly, other stores she's purchased appliances from have had very poor customer service. It's pretty much "call the manufacturer" and hope they speak English.

Sears is the only place (retail) I've seen to buy Wiha tools. German craftsmanship at great prices. Those things last forever.

Craftsman is shit.

God's honest truth. They used to be the tits but have gone steadily down hill for 20 years now. I have a ratchet set that was my grand dad's that is solid as tools get. I got a set for Christmas a few years ago and it felt like garbage from day one.

Now I use Snap-On for most of my tools.
I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor's dog.

IMHO, as a general rule, 20 year old American tools that aren't completely beat to hell are better than this year's American tools. AEN called it right.
