If you're looking for a somebody to blame for that, look no further than Richard Milhaus Nixon. Had he not been so wound-up about all those negroes who were living it up, smoking the Devil's Lettuce, and corrupting the white women in their jazz clubs, Marijuana would have never been classified as a Schedule 1 narcotic.

Going to feel extra dumb when Big Pharma figures out how to capture and patent all the positives of cannabis and sells them back to you for $300/pill.

I blame the otherwise intellectually curious people who were too much of a bunch a bitches to apply to the gubment to do the research...then I blame all the bible thumping fucktards that live more than 250 miles from a decent body of water who kept voting for that god damn drug war.

Add to that the over-prescribing of opiates for pain management, by legit doctors, and what you have is a nation full of people who are totally fucked up, and who unwittingly have painted into an even more fucked up corner. I saw it a lot in Pittsburgh, where "decent, middle-class" people turned to skag because its cheaper (and in some cases *stronger*) than the oxy's and vic's they'd accidentally gotten themselves addicted to while -and here's the kicker- under the supervision of a Doctor. It's scary.

The United States has handled drugs TERRIBLY. Absolutely TERRIBLY.
