2015-16 Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon - anyone got one?
Sold my last truck a couple of years ago, starting to miss having one so I'm looking at options.
Full size trucks are just too big these days and I'm more likely to be carrying some camping gear than a sheet of drywall - plus the fuckers start at $36k. I bought a Ram 1500 Quad Cab V8 for $18.5k in 2008 - shit has gotten ridiculous.
The new Tacoma looks good but I got in one that was on display and had to contort my neck and legs to get in unless the seat was too far back to be comfortable. I need to find another one and play with the seats/steering wheel to see if it gets better, or if the Japs just built a truck for their midget population.
The Colorado is cheaper, better options, a little more power and easier to get in... but it's a Chevrolet product. Full size trucks I wouldn't question reliability but on a fairly new-to-the-US mid-size...

I looked at one the other day but I can't bring myself to spend $40k on what is the equivalent of a plus sized s-10.
I think I'll go the used route.

Fucking Tacoma! It doesn't matter how you get into it, just as long as you get into it and drive the fucker anywhere and everywhere for 400 million miles! Then you put another engine in it and drive it for another 400 million miles!

Millhouse, I know you already know this but I'll throw it out there anyway...right now, like today and tomorrow you are absolutely in the best possible time frame to make a deal on a vehicle. Especially a brand new 2015 model. If you shop wisely and don't need the absolute top of the line vehicle, you can get a nicely equipped, full size half ton for under 30k. If you're in a large metro area with multiple volume dealerships you can carve out a great deal. Consider this.

Truck prices have inflated pretty crazily. I would strongly consider a 2-year old one that had taken the first depreciation hit. Especially if you aren't towing or hauling.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.
Re: 2015-16 Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon - anyone got one?
Unfortunately, there really are no used ones thus far. Second model year and there are some changes that I want in the 2016.
What I'd like to do is find an old V6 Ranger for a couple of years then get one (used) but Ranger prices are fucking nuts around here. $7k for one with 200k miles- crazy.
Half ton offerings are all just too big and ungainly. Even my Ram was lousy to drive and they all feel larger now.

Go to Europe. Buy the 16 Ranger and import it.
I have a new F150. Leased for @400 a month. Colorado and canyon are basically a dumb purchase when you can get a full sized for a few thousand more if you are buying and not leasing. And no one I know is happy with them. I have taken in 4 as trades this year. Trade in values suck, on par with anything Dodge.

Eh, no interest in a current full-size. My first three vehicles were full size ('87 F-150, '99 F-150, '08 Ram 1500), but they're quite unpleasant in urban traffic now. The mid-sizes are closer to my Soul in width than a Silverado or F-150.
I'm several months away but if I decide against one of the current mid-size, I'll probably just buy a third-generation C/K and keep the Soul.

I looked at them recently but ended up going with a new half ton. The price difference wasn't significant enough for me after rebates and promotions that were going on. Granted you're certainly going to get more features for the same money.
The mid sizes are creeping up in size too. The new tacoma reminds me of the size of an old full-size. Everything is just bigger now. I didn't look at the size difference and say holy shit this thing will be way better in urban traffic. Probably a little better but still shitty when you get into a parking lot with small spots. The half tons sit higher, but the mid-size trucks had some bulk to them too.
I liked the look of the Canyon moreso than the Colorado.
Buying a tacoma is like buying a brand new 10 year old truck. Even the amazing "redesign" is just incorporating technology that has been in Toyota's other SUVs for a while. Damn it if they don't hold their value though.

I like the design, but you will be surprised how fast you run out of room. Mine is a lot older so Things have changed. That being said, I have a 2004 Colorado with 150k miles and it is doing well, apart from so horrid electrical issues including the dreaded Chevy passlock design. My biggest issue is that it's big enough to do most stuff but I find myself needing that extra bed space or cab space more frequently than I like. I can make it work most days but it gets cramped.
I would love to trade it in and get a full sized truck but their trade in value sucks. Currently my plan is to just keep driving it til the wheels fall off and save for a decent full sized, possibly Titan, in the future.

Meh. I think The Tundra is the only 1/2 ton that's not going to fall apart. There are big issues with both the 1500 and 2500 Chevies with durability, I've seen the beds dented with reasonable loads, and Ford is gambling on technology that hasn't been proven in the real world (adhesive in the frame) I will say that I am not sure about the Dodges but the Nissan Titan was pretty mediocre when I looked at them.
Re: 2015-16 Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon - anyone got one?
I (and my family) always had good luck with the full sizes, regardless of brand, but most of those were from a time when there was a lot less that could go wrong with a truck. Hard for stuff to shit the bed when you don't have any power accessories or heated seats.

Jesus H. Fucking Christ, you ladies would bitch and find something wrong with ANYTHING. Hey, if the size is getting too big for you and you're not sure you can park it in the mall parking lot or you're afraid all the cool features are just gonna shit the bed later there is always the horse and buggy option. So just a quick trip into town for a loaf of bread and milk just saddle up the horse and if you have to pick up more things or want to take the family into town you can hitch up the buggy. Not many features to go wrong and small enough to maneuver around the city. MPG is pretty good...some water and hay and a few carrots here and there. No real warranty or recall issues.

Are you serious? Like anyone wants to hassle with putting up a horse just to go to the mall.Shapecharge wrote:Jesus H. Fucking Christ, you ladies would bitch and find something wrong with ANYTHING. New Nissan Titan will be sized btwn a half ton and a 3/4 ton. That's all I know about them, but Titans altogether haven't been stellar trucks.
I'm happy with my Ford F-150, but it is a beast. Also, it'll do 0 to 60 in 6 seconds with the dual turbo 6.

Really? I've heard good things about them. Gas mileage isn't great but I don't believe that they've had near the recall issues that Ford, Toyota, and Chevy have had.seeahill wrote:New Nissan Titan will be sized btwn a half ton and a 3/4 ton. The F150s are sweet, only I know that Ford is using adhesive instead of welds/rivets in places to shave a lot of weight down..,this adhesive tests well but is untried over long periods of time

Titans been underpowered and overpriced from day 1
Re: 2015-16 Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon - anyone got one?
the truck prices are so crazy these days
I'd love to have one but they're like $35k to start
and they don't fit in garages anymore, either
I have a 3 car garage in my mansion and they're too long to fit and too wide unless I take the double bay
but then where would I park my minivan? In the single-door bay? Then I can't open the passenger side doors
I guess I could buy a bigger house or get rid of the wife and kids
but then who would sleep with me?
I'd have to move back in with my mother
but she seems so happy since I moved out
and I can't see her miserable again just so I can have a truck
I guess I will just stick with my Honda
the gas mileagre relaly is pretty god
and besides, I can probably fit a sheet of dry wall in there if I cut it into quarters in the parking lot of the home depot

You blokes in the states are lucky to have loads of old pickups and an over whelming choice of cheap new crate motors. Plus a gob smacking array of quality aftermarket and n.o.s parts...
If I was in the u.s. I'd buy a classic truck and restore it to what I want. Fuck depreciation.
