This is from the Hutton system of saber,( not Hattan)
late 19th century- early 20th British military saber style, based upon systems before it, so not really different than what you'd see 150 years before and there was a lot of personalisation and winging it then as now in martial arts.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTqeuKW7tHY

Now those are training sabers, heavier than sports sabers, more like the real weapon, but they are on the shorter end and the lighter end of real war swords. So those guy's proficiency with a real lade would depend on how much solo work they do with the real things and if they do some cutting and thrusting accuracy work with it.

And this is not so dead an art. No you are not sword fighting people on the street, but you can carry canes just about everywhere ( sometimes, my knee says it's a good idea) and think of these skills applied to shitheads with knives, pistols close in and hand to hand if you work with surprise and don't set up and say "engarde!" like a dumbfuck.

'La Canne' and 'La Combat Dans La Rue' (dirty 'Savate' with grappling techniques added) are VERY interesting combat systems. Wish I knew someone who taught them around here.
You ever seen a cycling plumber who wrestles with small calves, forearms and neck? Didn't think so.

I do, it's actually a half mile from my place.

The place has that "Average Joe's Gym" look to it I absolutely love. Old school wood floors, old school apparatus.

Darth, is this going to be your carry piece?

If so, I'm curious about how user-friendly it is...please report back in a few months.

Yes, DC is another country, so is Maryland and there is reason to go there. With all the Arnis and whatnot, I can make canes work as it is, but adding some western methods more tailored to the length and stopping shit at longer ranges should up that and give options other than John Browning's son and Mr. Glocks inspiration and works well in conjunction with knives and knife substitutes.

I will let you know. Ordering this weekend, along hopefully with a saber from 1862, made in London, if it's not sold already.

It's funny, that stretch of road runs along train tracks, and there's all these IGx'y businesses running there. Those guys, a kenjtisu place, baptiste yoga, and absolutely no @Fit whatsoever.

Iron Garm Alley! Chi town, bitches!

Funny you say that. I might be operating our dojo, my SD classes and service as well as my return to taking new fitness clients...at a Xfit box by my house.

If my client, who is agenting this is successful with the dealer, I might be getting this, this week.

Now I compare to when I was younger and like many, I had stars in my eyes for Katanas, but all I could afford were pieces of shit aluminium Back belt mag advertised shit or cheap and dangerous stainless shit, so that never went far.
And even if you could afford a decent enough reproduction, one that was carried by a Samurai was going to be way out of one's reach.

But with this, for about $400 Canadian I can have a sword, made in London at the peak of commercial and custom sword production. It's a Canadian issue of an older Infantry officer's pattern I like.

So tomorrow I might get a 150+ year old weapons made for war, the pattern developed when edged combat was still very relevant and made right as the sunset started but there were many a man who's deeds with them would make you think otherwise if you missed the big picture that the revolver killed the sword as the dominate sidearm of war and civil defence.

Hey Darth, I don't know if you have any familiarity with Cold Steel. I know there stuff is kind of a joke in some places because it is ugly and cheap, but I have always found their stuff to be as close to indestructible as possible. I have a buddy who is a blade nut (we call him "the knife") and does weapon fabrication, he owns some of their uniques to use as toys. Never had a bad experience.

They make a cane called the "City Stick".

Funny you should mention Cold Steel. Since the British saber deal fell through, I ordered that this weekend, the stick is on back order but I've been playing with this since I got it last week.

They have some good stuff and some not good stuff. One thing about CS, they make shit tough because their image is largely about burly guys hacking, stabbing and breaking shit in the back yard. Let's put it this way, Cold Steel makes a Smallsword that cuts pretty well and can crack blocks. Small swords traditionally are shitty, weak stabbing weapons that don't cut for shit, so if you buty a traditionally more stabby weapon. CS's version will hack better than the original and not break, but if you want a modern sword to be more like they were and the one area they did better than now, you thin it out. CS and others making reproductions error on the side of too beefy because they know most people who won;t just put them on a wall, are idiots who will abuse them.

I have their SRK knife, it's a sharpened piece of crowbar, for a Survival Recon knife, it's a fucking rib spreader and my CS LTC Kukri is my favourite knife.

Good chance that repo cav saber is going to the grindstone to get thinned out so she'll cut deeper and stab with less resistance unless I do get my hands on a period piece. Got 2 bids on eay for 2 blades used in the Civl war, one made in London the other in France and down the road, I am buying a blade with an extended tang and doing my own guard and handle work on it.
