Re: Beer!!!
Friday night, a sabbath guest brought Hebrew beer. It's a light-brown ale, and really quite good. I had thought it was a marketing gambit only, but the beer has full flavor and yet it's not so bitter or dark that it's hard to drink as a summer beer.

Try the other varieties as well, most of their beers are very good.Hebrew Hammer wrote:Friday night, a sabbath guest brought Hebrew beer. It's a light-brown ale, and really quite good. Re: Beer!!!
This summer has seen few new beers. In fact, few beers at all.

He"brew" beer. Isn't that redundant?Hebrew Hammer wrote:Friday night, a sabbath guest brought Hebrew beer. It's a light-brown ale, and really quite good. One is a martial art that uses kicks and punches, the other is what you make bagels out of.

Sierra has always been hit or miss for me. Some of their stuff is really good, some is REALLY weak. The IPA is OK, porter is junk.KBois wrote:I've never tried any type of sierra beer.
the bottle looks fruity so i never think of getting it. went sam adams tonight, but ill give a sierra a go tomorrow.
I look forward to fall/winter all year for the Sam seasonals. Octberfest, Winter Lager, and the Holiday mix pack fuel my winer rowing.

I've never had the porter but the new Torpedo double IPA is much better than their old IPA.
But you can't go wrong with the Wheat beer or the Kellerweis.
Sam Adam's Octoberfest is just so fooking good.
I'm going to pick up another 6 or 12 next weekend.

Re: Beer!!!
Thanks to the aforementioned lift on high gravity beers in Alabama, I was able to try the Hercules Double IPA. It's a damn good IPA, with plenty of flavor, and basically none of the "alcoholy" flavor of other imperials (this one is 9% per volume).
Also, Birmingham has some of the best watering holes I've been to. Check out the beer list on this bar, the J. Clyde. They prepared for the high-gravities by installing an entire new bar full of taps. The J. Clyde beer menu.

Avery Kaiser Oktoberfest
Had this on tap at the Brickstore Pub in Decatur. One of the best Oktoberfest beers I've ever had. Very sweet, malty beer. Fairly high alcohol content of around 9.5%. Perfect for a cool fall day.

St. Bernardus Apt. 12

Very smooth, caramel color and flavor, vaguely fruity finish. High alcohol content. Had this on tap at the local pub. Gotta get back before they switch it over to something else. Pretty heavy beer, good for after dinner.

Re: Beer!!!
Okocim's Baltic Porter is the best beer I've tried recently. It's rich, sweet and very smooth.

Re: Beer!!!
As the Holiday/winter season settles in, some good beers have been making their rounds at the local pub:
Avery Reverend

A big IPA. Not too hoppy, but strong like a mufugga. Runs somewhere over 10% abv. Very easy to drink for such a strong ale. More sweet than bitter. You can actually taste the alcohol in this beer. Sneaks up on you. Have a couple, then stumble as you get up to pay the rent.
Bell's Two Hearted IPA

One of the better IPA's I've tried in a while. Not a filtered beer, so it has a nice hazy look. Strong hops, but not overwhelming. Citrus and pine finish. A good crisp beer for watching the game.
Delerium Noel

Very strong Belgium style seasonal beer. Surprisingly smooth for such a strong beer. Similar to St. Bernardus Abt. 12, slight cherry finish.

Avery's New World Porter is also good.

If I remember right, we usually went with Hamms light.

Mogollon Brewery (Flagstaff) Apache Trout Stout:

This may be the most "stout" stout I've ever had. Good stuff. They nicknamed it "God's Coffee" at the pizza joint by my house where I had it this weekend. Lots of reviews here. I'm not much for waxing descriptive on beers...I just drink 'em.
Breckenridge Vanilla Porter:

This is probably one of my favorites ever. The vanilla is a great flavor. So smooth even my wife can drink it. Reviews. Only thing I wish were different was a bit more alcohol content (4.7%).

That said, the fucking Belgians can make some beer. Just tried Leffe.
Very nice. Hoppy with some orange finish to it. Going after the Hoegarrden next.

Lilja's Hop Ness Monster was very disappointing as far as American IPAs go.
I'm spoiled as my go-to American IPA is the excellent Two Hearted Ale from Bells Brewery. And I missed Bell's seasonal "Hop Slam" this year.

If you can find it, Terrapin's Big Hoppy Monster is a most excellent American IPA for the hop head. It's a seasonal that they release every fall (I think).Shafpocalypse Now wrote:Lilja's Hop Ness Monster was very disappointing as far as American IPAs go.

Has anyone tried anything from Founders in Mi? I think their centennial ipa is one of the best I've ever had. They also have a breakfast stout that is really good. Anything terrapin is always good. There seasonal now is a belgian ipa, it is awesome
