Re: The Magical Rest Week

Interesting point BD, although I don’t think I’d have noticed it if you hadn’t pointed it out. I’d say in terms of how I feel and perform: - Deload Week - Week 1: Everything moves nicely, but a little harder to get into the groove. Things feel heavy though. - Week 2: Strongest and most technically p...

Re: The Magical Rest Week

Beer Jew. do you compete? Just assuming you do with the structured high-intensity approach. I have, in the past, but I’m not sure if I will again. A bunch of dudes spending £100 to sit in a freezing cold school hall for six hours and get five minutes up on the platform actually lifting... Irrespect...

Re: The Magical Rest Week

I should add that in terms of intensity I’ll drop my top single for the day or top triple (usually 90%+) during a deload week. I’ll likely do two sessions during the week, each with maybe 1 or 2 sets of 5 at 80% of the compounds. If you really can’t do that, then try deloading a week earlier than yo...

Re: The Magical Rest Week

It’s all really a question of degrees. How low do you go in a deload week? Is every lighter week a deload week? For me the answer is to push the volume and intensity up until I’m not enjoying it. Then maintain intensity but substantially drop volume for a week. I’ll come back the next week fresher, ...

Re: Game Changers

I think this is quite an interesting topic, so I'm rambling a little here. I'm by no means an expert on any of this, so if BD or PL54 wants to tell me I'm talking crap and correct it all, go ahead. I experimented a lot with each lift, to find the form and cues which work for me. I stress for me, bec...

Re: Game Changers

Biggest improvement to my technique was learning what it actually meant to brace. After that, lots of YouTube videos watching lifters like Brett Gibbs - trying to watch guys built more like me, who are fanatical experts about form. Also YouTube videos where someone explains how the form feels, or ra...

1. Technique: Learning and understanding what good technique looks like for me but then more importantly, applying it so that every rep looks the same. 2. Learning and internalising how a 7/8/9/10 RPE should actually feel. 3. Following on from point 2, learning what a hard set feels like, provided p...

Re: Do you even lift, bro?

I’m finally getting my motivation back to take powerlifting seriously again after having our first kid a couple of years ago. Lifting 3-4 times a week; Main lifts work on a 3 week cycle, volume decreasing, intensity increasing weekly. For example squats: - Week One: 140kg x 6,6,6 - Week Two: 145kg x...

Re: Strong Endurance

Either hard, or easy. No middle. This is the most useful way to train for the majority of people. Either sprint, or jog. Either do a pump routine, or a heavy routine. The stuff in the middle, while it feels good, is usually a waste of time. I think this is a misapprehension of a thing which is most...

Re: Question about following a "Power to the People" routine at higher weights?

If you don’t have access to micro plates, try eating dinner before the gym and microloading your dinner.

Each squat session, add 1lb of potatoes. That night, you’ll be lifting 1lb more.

It's mixed - most non-Americans aren't Trump supporters, but we do tend to get both sides of the argument played out in the news here.

It's a big deal. The prevealing hope in the UK is that Trump is impeached and resigns.

It would be a bigger deal if it hadnt fallen the day before a general election.

New dad training

In about two weeks time, I'll hopefully become a dad. Work stress is already through the roof, we're in the process of moving house, and there's a bunch of other things going on. I reckon I can get to the gym for 1-2 hours twice a week for the foreseeable future. My goals in that time are to lean up...
