NATO also knows something, not a single ship "for demonstration" in the Black Sea.

I’m guessing Putin wants to get in and get out. Kill/capture Ukraine leadership, install his person there, and exit.

Ukraine has Chernobyl, so while they don’t have nukes they have the material to make a dirty bomb and deliver it to Russian soil. Would they do something like that as a last ditch move? Thinking about it? Attacks on Russian interests in other countries? Stuff like that worries me. Few wars end like the initiators thought they would. The genie has left the bottle.

This was the US goal.
Russia asked for guarantees that Ukraine would not join NATO, the United States refused and began pumping weapons into Ukraine. There was even talk of nuclear weapons.
The United States needed a war between Ukraine and Russia.
