Had some tonight after work. It's one of the better imperial stouts on the market.

I'm glad you liked it. Have you had Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout?

NO PIC!!!!!!!! (sorry)

Jim Beam - Devil's Cut.

Was on sale at local market. Under $12 for a bottle....

I do not have enough of a palate yet to tell if this is "good" or not, but I like it.

Drinking it straight is just too strong for me. Adding one ice cube changes the taste and the burning is not there. Much more of a deep taste.

I don't really know the whiskey vocabulary yet, but for 12 dollars, I am quite happy.

Whiskey and coffee snobbery is the highest of faygotry well ahead of wine snobbery because most wine drinkers have been analy penetrated at some point in their life. Drink what you like and enjoy it. That is what is good in life. I'll have to give this a try. I love me some Uncle Jim.

Where's Fuzzy Dunlop to tell him hes disappointed because there's some obscure no-name shit that's $2 cheaper per 5th?

Haven't had Sam Smith's but I've heard it's great. I've had Old Rasputin a few times before and always liked it. I was gonna get Oskar Blues' Ten Fidy again but they didn't have any cold at the store...and OR is actually cheaper even though it rates "world class" and only slighter lower on beer advocate. It was cold and cheap(er) so I picked some up. I'll have another one after I run or lift tonight.

Sorry, I was off plowing your mom, wife, and daughters (bleach jobs look fantastic, BTW) :finga:

You're free to drink whatever the hell you want- if you like it then it is, in fact, "good". I've drank my share of Beam but the white label is just not something I've ever enjoyed sipping straight. Sure, if I'm mixing drinks or taking shots then Jack/Jim is fine. But I only ever purchase beam if the goal is to get fucked up. This thread should be about introducing each other to better hooch, which I've tried to do. You really think beam tastes good then by all means keep buying it.

And for the record- Weller isn't some obscure no-name brand. It's distilled at Buffalo Trace, which also does Blanton's, Eagle, Sazerac, and the Van Winkle line (according to wiki). You can likely find it at any package store with a decent bourbon selection.

My 4th of July:

Image

Meh at best... not very honey-ey (which was a good thing) but the funk wasn't great. Not sure what yeast they're using but I like that "brett funk" which wasn't present here. Did drink them out of the bottle which isn't the best.

I've tried this a few times, and just can't get into it. I think I just don't like pilsners, because everything else they make I love.

I've been on a little pilsner kick lately which is just how my beer tastes go. I overexpose myself to flavor profiles and end up needing a change up every few months. There really is something to be said for a balanced beer (Dale's is an excellent example of this). I did the same thing with scotch that I did with IPAs- chase that extreme flavor profile (hops in the beer, peat in the whisky) until it becomes overwhelming and then I move on.

If you're willing to look at others just to see if it's a style thing I've enjoyed the Lagunitas PILS, Notch, Sixpoint Crisp, Southern Tier Eurotrash, Victory. The North Coast Scrimshaw was one I didn't really love and I'm a big fan of their other beers, esp Le Merle. I tend to stay away from the imports because I never trust that what I'm trying is fresh (see Heineken). I actually like good ole Bud heavies in this category too.

I've heard Lagunitas pils is great, I'll give it a try. They carry it at a favorite store near me.

One of my go to Belgium Beers. Love that I can get it in a six pack for around 9. A bit light both in color and alcohol, but the flavor is quite good.

This thread has gone all craft beertastic..I've never even heard of this one. Describe why is perfect..Use small words. My point of reference for perfect is pretty mundane and workmanlike.

I wouldn't call Delirium a craft beer, as it's made in one of the oldest breweries in Belgium.

I'm not some beer nerd or snob, and Delirium(both Tremens and Nocturnum) are simply damn good tasting ales.

It's a wonderful Belgian strong dark ale, and one of the best of its type. It's what inspired a lot of the craft beers in the US. It's a dark, syrupy, caramel like beer that's not too sweet but not to bitter.
When I had the biggest victory of my life last fall, a friend spared no expense and stocked her vacation home with the best Belgian beer money could buy. Her refrigerator contained four packs of:

1. Chimay (Blue, red and yellow labels)
2. Saint Bernardis
3. Delirium Nocturnum

By the way, Sierra Nevada is nothing to sneeze at. It's a wonderland American Pale Ale.

Good point of reference, although it's still better than most craft IPAs that you can get on the other side of the Rockies. Try Dick's Best Bitter if you haven't-- brewed in Centralia. Great summer bitter.

Hilarious. A friend recommended this very beer tonight. Actually texted a photo of it as he drank it.
