Hmmm... and where did that image come from? thesunglassmanonline.com, of course.

Ponder the above at your leisure.

YET ANOTHER eerie coincidence. His "medicine?" My urologist told me about a drunk who tried to stiffen his flaccid pecker with a cocktail stirrer. (blood and surgery ensued)

Has anyone else read DJ's "First Person" article on T-Bag? More proof that @fit was threatened by a man who practices what he preaches, as opposed to "do what I say, not as I do."

Banned,

Didn't want to overly pimp my brother's stuff. We talk on the phone a lot and how getting in working out with life is a bitch.

Still floored that he remembered that whole prom story.

My post at X-fit.

This is wrong on so many levels.

If you aren't a professional athlete then there is no need for shite like this.

And I've been in the military and I've been a cop so don't pull the whole "you don't know" bowlsheet on me.

Dangerous fitness practices do not compare to responding to an armed robbery call or clearing a house in Baghdad.

Fitness means health and performance and I remember a Crossfit Journal putting forth such information.

The loss of health to the demon that is performance is not fitness and so forth is not the Crossfit.

That guy pulling the military card is fucking retarded. Saying:
"I do this so I don't get killed in war, even though there may be some long-term health consequences,"
even if doing CF would have any bearing on such a thing, which it doesn't, has NOTHING TO DO with:
"I do this for no practical reason whatsoever, even though there may be some long-term health consequences."
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

I've never been in a war, or a gun fight, or been a policeman.

My gut feeling is that Crossfit has absolutely nothing to do with holding a rifle, aiming, and shooting at people, and Crossfit has very little to do with not getting shot.

I would probably think that while "fitness" would be important, there is a whole other level/type of training needed to survive in these situations.

It seems that if I am going to war where I may have to fight for my life, I would rather show up injury free than to go to with a shoulder I tweaked doing rounds of snatches and muscle ups for time.

The whole:

is exactly why I want nothing to do with crossfit and never will. Any debilitated 70 year old who is telling me that being riddled with arthritis, tendonitis, and what not is worth it because he or she had a great FRAN time can bite me.

If you are not getting paid to do it, then what is the point? It reminds me of the Rif rant when he called out everyone and basically said it was better to be an injury plagued has been gymnast and powerlifter who came close to greatness than a healthy, active, happy person who never "pushed the line!"

Just finished a great book, called Deep Survival that listed some key qualities needed to survive. I'll write a review separate, but the section where it said you need to be familiar with and accepting of pain reminded me of some of my mountain bike rides, hill runs, the last 5 miles of a marathon, Navy AOCS, SERE school, and crossfit. Crossfit/Gym Jones/mtnathlete workouts are painful. They build that tolerance and acceptance of it. Lance Armstrong echoed a similar theme in talking about surviving cancer.

Something to think about.

That military analogy is lame. Crossfit is to fitness is what not taking cover is to a firefight.

Really? Like I said, no military experience whatsoever. I just cannot imagine that Crossfit would help you deal with the adrenaline rush/stark fear of a battle. Like I said, being fit is better than not fit. But I just cannot imagine that it is the case that in battle the fittest people survive. It just seems like there is something else.

But I really have no idea.

Never been in a war.

Have worked in and around corrections and the seriously mentally ill, sometimes both in the same setting, for a damn long time, with an 8 year hiatus from ~2000 to earlier this year.

Take out the entirely random events, such as getting struck by a mortar round or knifed in the back, and anything I have seen that remotely equates "ability to survive" has less to do with fitness and more to do with being able to act decisively, and do so quickly and without a sense of immediate remorse or empathy.

Maybe if you are airdropped as a SEAL deep into ET, and have to run/fight your way 60 klicks to home-base would fitness play a big role. But for the most of us, it is far better to be able to fight dirty and get it over quick. A whole lot of real fat guys do that very well in my business.

Thats another annoying thing about Crossfit. They think it's the best system for everything and end up lumping LE, military, firefighters, prison guards etc all into the same group. If they think the fitness require to walk 40k carrying all your ammunition, food, water, radios etc is the same as the fitness required for a prison guard or a SWAT team member they are quite simply on drugs. Probably crack.
