Re: The couch thread
If you read this thread, there was a freak judo player who trained with Glassman for a while. He apparently was capable of 700 for a single, and apparently did a triple with 650 with a few folks watching. This was in the earlier days of @F. However, there was an apparent difference of opinion, in that freakjudo wanted to go more specific to improve his game, while GG said to push the metcon stuff harder to improve his game.
I still think that there are no home grown 700lb Crossfit DLers.

Re: The couch thread
And honestly how could there ever be? A 700 pound deadlift is not something that just happens, no matter how much of a natural lifter you are. You have to get specific and dedicated to get up to 700 pounds. You can do the WODs from now until then and it will not happen.Shaf wrote: I still think that there are no home grown 700lb Crossfit DLers.
Crossfit sucks.

Yeah.
500? Yeah. Anything over that is probably the result of, oh my fucking god, specialization on strength.

Re: The couch thread
Couch's whole quote needs to be repeated to appreciate the humorous:
Make mine a double wrote:But here's the fascinating part. We can take you from a 200 pound max deadlift to a 500-750 pound max deadlift in two years while only pulling max singles four or five times a year. We will though work the deadlift, like most lifts, approximately once per week at higher reps and under grueling conditions. It may intuit well that if you can pull a 250 pound deadlift 21 times coming to the lift at a heart rate of 180 beats per minute, then 500 pounds for a single at a resting heart rate is perhaps manageable.
A novice is someone who keeps asking himself if he is a novice. An intermediate is someone who is sick of training with weak people and an advanced person doesn't give a shit anymore. - Jim Wendler

1. Pick a goal
2. Select a program/protocol that can lead to desired goal.
3. Train using picked program.
4. Allow for adaptation to program
5. Goal achieved.
6. Repeat as necessary.
Crossfit
1. Pick a single/random workout that is difficult.
2. Change workout daily to prevent any adaptation.
3A. Take off shirt and be photographed (male)
3B. Hook up with shirtless photographed male (female.
4. Report injury (either physical or emotional) on crossfitboard.
Crossfit Sucks

Re: The couch thread
I think it's a major stretch for the heart rate before a max lift to be a consideration in how heavy it is.
The deadlift, in competition, is a complete psych lift. I've seen guys literally frothing at the mouth. Their heart rate isn't 60 fucking beats per minute when they walk up to the bar.

Re: The couch thread
And while it is nothing that has not already been pointed out - Coach's idea that pulling 250 pounds many times with an elevated heart rate will translate into a 100% increase in weight at a lower heart rate makes absolutely no sense.stosh wrote:Couch's whole quote needs to be repeated to appreciate the humorous:

Imagine I told people that by regularly bench pressing 135 after elevating their heart rate to 175 beats per minute through tabata cycling, they could then press 315 when well rested. I would be laughed at, mocked, and scorned, and rightfully so.
But people pay coach 1000.00 dollars a pop.
I have rethough this. Coach is the most successful person who has ever lived, right after L. Ron Hubbard.

Re: The couch thread
Actually, Glenn Pendlay told a pretty crazy story in that thread about exactly this. Apparently Gary Heisey pulled 700 basically the first time he ever touched a barbell. That's the closest thing to absolutely unbelievable I've ever seen while still being, I assume, true, since I trust Glenn.newguy wrote:A 700 pound deadlift is not something that just happens, no matter how much of a natural lifter you are.
RPC: I have nothing against him personally -- I don't even know him -- but as far as I can tell Robb is way too angry and settled into a camp to argue about these things meaningfully anymore. Also that entire community has some kind of weird anti-science and anti-logic atsmosphere that makes my first response to almost every post "... WHAT?"
Stupid people are making me a less tolerant person. Or my decreasing tolerance is making me rank more people as stupid. Probably both. I need to move to a glacier.

Is a gay dude being sexist or homophobic if he completely ignores the fact that there are obviously a bunch of lesbian CrossFitters?Surely there must be other gay crossfitters?
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

I can't believe that some dumbass asked if "Kai Hammermeister" was his real name. It's not like he posted as "Kurt J. Wilkens."
