You miss the ball with your comments regarding, "Lack of specificity and progression." Your examples to support this hypothesis are irrelevant. Doing CrossFit correctly should give you a stronger bench press, make you faster on the track, and improve your deadlift. Would you like to know why? The first reason is because CrossFit emphasizes increasing work capacity in the three metabolic pathways. Ask any powerlifter like Dave Tate or Louie Simmons if work capacity has any use. The second reason you will get better in the three mentioned fields is because CrossFit involves training in those three specific endeavors. If you are serious about your review I challenge you to join my workout log and post your times and experiences with the next month of workouts posted on CrossFit's mainpage. http://www.board.crossfit.com/showthread.php?t=24759

Re: The couch thread
I liked that part. Its only been said a million times now.Which leads me to my "no progression" complaint. Say you're really into the whole CrossFit thing, and you really want to be able to post some impressive numbers on the site and maybe earn yourself an approving PM from CrossFitChick75. But let's say you're terrible at sprinting. Unless you figure out a way to do some carefully-worked-out sprint progressions in addition to what's posted on the site, you're out of luck, there, Freckles, because sprinting once a week isn't going to make you faster or better or much-of-anything-'er' except exhausteder and frustrateder.
And if you're terrible at, say, deadlifting, you're going to stay terrible at it because before last Saturday, the last time you deadlifted was November 28th, and that was just to test your one-rep max, which I'm here to tell you may be good for the ego but it's not much of a workout. Referring back to the week of workouts, none of the programs listed have been in the rotation for at least a month, and a couple haven't been visited since June, meaning that any specific benefits you got out of the workout a month ago will have evaporated.
So CrossFit isn't the place to turn if you're looking for a systematic way to improve any single aspect of your fitness, be it aerobic conditioning, sports skills, or maximum speed, power, and strength. There are certainly more efficient ways to improve body composition as well.

He seems to be saying @fit is for poseurs. Could that be true? If there is such a thing as functional posing they have surely found it.

Narcissistic obsession with 'leanness' is exactly the same thing as pussyboy bodybuilders worrying about muscle size and preening in front of the mirror. A casual observer of this forum would think that instead of 'Nutrition and Health', the title was 'Low Carb Dieting and Visible Abdominals'. Skinny does not equal healthy, you bunch of wasp-waisted weak sisters. Function is what matters, not some Weideresque cookie cutter appearance ideal forced down our throats by some New York ad agency pissants who have attended more aerobics classes than I've had bowel movements.
Anyone who spends a lot of time thinking about their cuts or bodyfat levels has something wrong with their heads. If you own a set of calipers, seek professional help. Or better yet, have a bananna and chill the F&%k out. Next time you see that roid-bloated mass of sarcoplasmic hypertrophy that we all look down on at the gym, tell him he looks a little fatter than normal. If he reacts the same way you would, you're the same guy.

My favorite thing about Garm is that he says whatever the fuck he wants, and if it contradicts something he said before, then who cares, because he was the guy lying about being in Force Recon. Not just lying, but almost banking on that.

That explains all of those 10-second 100m @Fers. They're just so fast on the track! What these fuckwits don't understand is that of course it improves the deadlift, speed, and bench press of a detrained 30-year old mother of two or most people that have been following bullshit programs for years. Just because @F > Shit doesn't make @F > Everything.CultBuster wrote:From HEREhttp://dynamicfitness.blogspot.com/2007 ... ng_11.htmlNicholas Cummings said...

This would be funny if you were being even slightly sarcastic. A bit light on the hate today. How about this: http://board.crossfit.com/showthread.php?t=47736
Glad to see there are a few voices of reason left over there. For chicken and Fish, what type of seasonings do you guys use? I am trying to stay in the zone and have been using very little. Maybe a little cajun rub on fish or some green onion and basil on chicken. Should I worry about the carb in the onions and basil?

The only thing that asswipe needs to worry about is if it has enough man goo on top for him.

I still don't understand the obsession with being photographed putting fuck-all overhead, but in some cases, I'll make allowances.

David Carradine and @fit: the sad truth.

Re: The couch thread
No amount of functional overtraining or warrior dieting will save this comely @squatter from a real life situation.

Re: The couch thread
More Zone fun. This dude thinks this meal might be TOO MANY CALORIES!!1!
Again, this is allegedly a man. The only way I see that working is if he meant to type " 3 pounds" when he typed "3 slices of turkey bacon."Do I have this right?
I'm trying to figure out this zone diet thing. I've read a couple of books on it, lots of posts, etc., but not sure if I have this right.
I'm 5'4", weigh 167lbs., and been doing CF 2-3x's a week. (It's a bootcamp version so not as much weight work yet, though hoping to start that soon.) In the past two months I've lost 11 pounds just from cutting back on sugars, breads, rice, potatoes, pasta, etc., but not where I'd like to be yet. I would like to lose another 10-15 lbs. Now that I feel I have a better handle on incorporating the workouts, I want to focus on the nutrition, which is a totally new way of thinking for me.
I think I need to be eating about 11-12 blocks a day to kick the weight loss into gear. That said I would need three blocks at each meal of P, C, and F and 1 block of each for snacks.
Would this breakfast work with that?
1/2c plain yogurt
1/2c blueberries
1c strawberries
1 Tbsp slivered almonds
3 slices turkey bacon
It seems like an awful lot of food to me. I'm scared I'm doing it wrong and going to end up gaining weight.
Sorry in advance if I sound clueless. I think I'm making this harder than it really is.

Re: The couch thread
That's a breakfast? You got to be shitting me, that doesn't count for anything more than a very lite snack after you had the flu.
