Workout videos are like a modern day version of the loading bar from the early internet. You just stare at it and think "Okay, 43% left... 40... 38..." while that little Microsoft paperclip guy dances on your screen. Only now instead of a cartoon paperclip we're staring at a douche in board shorts and instead of dancing he's having a seizure while hanging from a pull-up bar.

They do it for us! That kipping video was comedy gold, in a slow moving kind of way, like how those segues on Family Guy get more and more awkward and uncomfortable and seem to never end.

Fast forward to the end for callus-tearing goodness and a hardcore response! Note how he didn't once seem to get his chin actually over the bar. Chin at bar height and chin over the bar are two different things - the second is harder. Of course, if you tried that on a straight bar, you'd end up busting your trachea, but would that be such a bad thing?
POD, POD, POD...

Lynne is one of the older @F workouts that does nothing if you suck at it and kicks your ass if you're good at it. It's one of the few @F workouts that actually did any kind of upper body building. Once you get over 200 reps, let us know how "easy" it felt.

Where was Couch to condemn Orlando's round-back pickup? Or is he still up Caviston's ass?

Gay butterfly kip aside, 106 is a ton of damn pullups. I always liked Speal, too. He's a short, spry fellow that used to wrestle and is pretty strong for his size. Seems like a decent enough guy.

I've seen some videos of his, and I know he's a strong guy. A 365lb Axle C&J is no joke (I read somewhere that was a record he set for the lightweight division). However, his sport now is CrossFit, which is sad to see. While it would be nice to see him dominate at the games, since that'd further go to prove that strength and size trump being emaciated metconners, I would much prefer to see him still performing well in strongman.

Check out his new website (if you've seen the old one before): http://www.hybridstamford.com/

His bio there doesn't even make any mention of being a strongman competitor. I hope he has the sense in him still to become one of the wiser affiliates.
ROB ORLANDO
I started my career as a trainer at Boston College where I completed a 4 month long internship with the varsity football and hockey programs as an assistant Strength and Conditioning coach. Following Boston College, I began working at Definitions, an upscale 1-on-1 personal training studio in lower Manhattan. My next stop was New York Sports Club on Hope Street in Stamford, CT. I attained Master Trainer status after just 1 year and maintained that distinction until I left into my 5th year.

At New York Sports Club I initiated many strength and conditioning programs that were geared specifically toward the local youth hockey programs. I also introduced the staff to alternative training which included Olympic lifting, stair drills, plyometrics, and parking lot routines. The club started cracking down on my style of training and they asked me to be more mainstream. They were interested in having me use the machines with clients and that's when I decided to start my own business.

Intelligent Personal Fitness, LLC, was born in late 2003. By removing myself from the gym, I was able to fully explore the creative side to training. Often times, I would be training people at their houses where they had little or no equipment. Within these constraints I found my niche. Machines were made for trainers who lacked the creativity and knowledge to teach movements and skills. I was forced to think outside the box to create workouts that would tax clients not only physically but mentally as well. It was during these workouts that my vision of Hybrid Athletics took shape.

Hybrid Athletics is a place filled with highly-motivated, competitive, capable, open-minded individuals who have a passion for sports and fitness. They compete against themselves in each and every workout. They compete against one another in our group classes. It is the competition that drives the success of our program.
I remember his website previously having a kettlechick listed there as another trainer. What happened to her? Looks like it's a one-man-show now.

My issue with the other two videos (B-Boi Lynne and Speal's 106) is the way they're trying to make it seem so hardcore. Did you have your speakers turned on while watching the first? With the second, it's just further promoting the idea that stupid injuries (particularly callus tears) = badass.

The amazing thing is, if they just dropped all their OTW bullshit, crossfit could be a decent think tank for metcon training, to use along with anything else one pleases to do.

And now they're acting liek they are inventing every fucking training modality under the sun.

When I hear people refer to things like hang snatches, burpees or whatnot as "crossfit movements" it makes me want to puke. Fucking hell. The only thing they may have introduced (and I'm sure someon else came up with it) is the fucking wallball shit as well as the ball clean, which are both rather retuhded.

Now look. I've eaten a pice of pie.
When we spin the pie again, the area cut out of the volume of the sphere equals fitness.

last time I did this I PR'd but couldn't walk right for 3 days and because my quads would inhibit contraction due to the soreness I almost twisted the crap out of my knee several times. (this has happened every time I've done this WOD but last time was the worst) Anyway, I'm sitting this one out this time, but I wish you all the best on this WOD. have fun and kick as$!

Orlando and Spealer are good guys. I like Lynne as a WOD...fucks your upper body up. Butterfly kip= way too gay but that is a monster effort.

That's the videographer's fault. The interviews are worse than Larry King, and they all focus on torn hands (guys) or body parts (girls). It's a shame, really. Speal cranked out 106 pullups, and the camera asshole is more concerned about his hands.

Think this shirt would sell at the Gaymes?

I personally resent the comparisons people make between the gaymes and the Special Olympics. I don't think it's fair.

Speal doing that to his hands less than two weeks out from the Gaymes is just plain stupid, IMO. Oh well, if he wants to damage his most important "tools" and fry his system that close to the event, he may have just handed off high placing to some other athlete. Add contest/meet prep to the list of things that @Fers ignore doing properly.

T200, I wanted to ask you, I know it's business and all, but what's with the sandbag guru sponsoring the Gaymes?!?

The brilliance *cough* of @FFB shines through here:
http://www.crossfitfootball.com/page/in ... de&id=2531
On the minute:
Perform 2 Power Clean and Jerks on the minute for 15 minutes.
*Start the clock. At the top of every minute perform 2 Power Clean and Jerks.
*Use a maximal weight. 90% of 1 RM
*For every rep not completed, perform 5 burpees during rest time.
Let us compare with a semi-related Pendlay workout scheme for OL lifters, posted previously on IGx:
http://www.exrx.net/WeightTraining/Weightlifting.html
This program is basically a 4-day- a-week program, where the lifter works on the Snatch and Clean & Jerk on Monday and Thursday, and works on strength on Tuesday and Friday. We have found that 8 to 12 singles done on the Clean & Jerk and Snatch work well, with the lifter using between 65 and 85% of his/her maximum. Usually only one specified weight is used for each training session. A limited rest period is used, usually performing one rep per minute. This allows the lifter to work with a light-enough weight to practice technique, yet still get a good workout. It appears from early results that this protocol works very well for building consistency in a lifter's technique. The focus is to complete each workout with zero misses at the target weight before allowing the athlete to increase the weight in the next workout or next week (The athlete is not allowed to increase the weight after a workout with misses).
First way: Jeebus...great way to engrain horrible form and have a ton of misses, with the burpees in there to make someone more tired and increase injury quotient!

Second way: Teh awesome. I'm currently using that approach with one of the lifts one day a week in my very hybridized program. Short enough rest and "heavy" enough to get a good workout (as Mr. Pendlay said), with enough weight to require solid form.

@FFB, like couch's "100 words", appears to have been done well only at the start and has gone nearly straight downhill.

Lol I finally figured out what your sig was. Very clever photo.

Looks like the gaymes will even have a PVC relay!

Hill Workout
2500m (approximately) Hill run relay
Rules:
1. The first athlete will run one lap (approximately 500m) carrying a short piece of PVC.
2. At the completion of the lap, there will be a well marked transition area in which to pass the PVC to the second athlete, who runs one lap with the PVC.
3. This repeats until all four athletes have run one lap with the PVC.
4. The team then runs one final lap together.
5. The clock is stopped when the last athlete crosses the finish line holding the PVC. If the last athlete to cross the line isn't carrying the PVC, the clock stops when that athlete grabs the PVC.
6. There is a 20min cap on this workout.
Too coooooool to just get a regular baton like they do in real relays.

Might be some minor umbilical herniation on the chick in the middle too.

Do you have the old picture of the one on the left? It'd make a great "CrossFit: Before and After!"

disagree. would love a go at either bookends. if the middle girl would get that wiener lopped off i think she'd be kinda tasty too, even if she's a buttaface.

the @fit chix that don't juice and put in the time tend to end up pretty fine, imo. i think it's probably couch's only contribution worth mentioning.
have you ever been as far as even considered go want to do look more like?
