@F is full of posturing, vain, insecure folks. Not to say there aren't some legit fit fuckers.

Emphasis on style over substance, while mouthing virtuosity and not bothering to master even some of the basic shit.

When the fuck are they going to need to do something like a muscle-up or overhead squat?

I still don't understand how those assholes think bodybuilders are weak. It is just retarted.
My favorite "functionality" argument from @f'er is for thier kipping pull-ups. It's supposedly more "functional" because they can bang out more reps at a faster clip, giving them more power output.

I asked one that I know if he thought he'd be able to swing his legs 3 feet in front of him to get enought momentum to actually haul his ass over a wall if need be.

Blank stare.

Question...is there any carryover between kipping pullups and traditional dead hang pullups i.e. will banging out the kips increase your dead hang numbers? My thought is no.

Yes, similar to how KB swings can increase a DL.

The biggest carryover from excessive kipping pull-ups to deadhangs though is the shoulder injuries...

EDIT: I'm referring to the "standard" kip, not that goofy "snake"/circular kip that's all the rage with @Fers now. That doesn't transfer to anything except tribal tats and Kool-Aid drinking...

There is some if you weren't doing dead hangs regularly before. If you could do 20 DH before, I wouldn't expect switching to kipping would positively impact that DH number. If you could do 3-4, it would probably make an impact just from being similar. The "better" you get at that circular movement the kippers do, the less carryover one should expect. Glassman claimed that his kippers were better at strict pullups than everybody else, so the strict vs. kipping argument was moot, but he didn't provide any evidence of that.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

I'm with Twight on kipping...do it until you get strong enough to do real pull ups.

I still prefer the body row > JS band > dead hang progression. Much safer on the shoulders, especially seeing how the kipping pull up can let someone bypass the shoulder strength and stability gained from actually getting strong enough to do pull ups.

I can see a little leg kick to get someone who's close to dead hangs over the hump, but not the loopy swing that @f teaches.

I was greeted yesterday at the gym by chalk hand prints all over the fucking place. I'm not talking a light dust either it looked like they dipped their hands in paint before they put them down. Lately there's been chalk caked on the bars so heavy that you can't even see the knurling any more. I swear someone is getting some PVC up the ass if they ban chalk because of these asshats.

Awesome LOL advice off the forum for a guy that thinks he might need couching:
Just do it.
Just do it as best you can, make all the mistakes in the world.
Don't injure yourself too badly.
But don't be surprised when you do get injured. You will, at some point.
Expect, and embrace, mistakes. Expect to suck. At first.
But with perseverance, expect to improve, even in the absence of coaching.

But ugly C&J's(for example) that need unlearning later, are better than no C&J's just because you don't have coaching.

It's a less than ideal scenario, but one that will enable you to coach others better later, should you desire, and more character building, if frustrating, in the short term, for yourself Not to mention the fact that you'll actually do a WOD, instead of dipping out, or subbing unnecessarily, just because you aren't perfect, or don't have a coach.

There are a lot of folk on this board whose advice is on the money despite never having been coached, especially early on, because they've been there and done that and know how to get through.

Perseverance, persistence, and just doing it, until you can access or afford coaching, is a far better option than any alternative. Use the online coaching service here- it falls halfway between the scenario i describe, and the ideal one of being hands-on coached by a pro...

I just watched Josh Everett's deadlift video from the gaymes website. http://media.crossfit.com/cf-video/Cros ... adlift.mov

505 double overhand is impressive by itself, but after running and pulling a bunch of other overhand singles it is insane.

No hate from me there.

LEVEL 1 CERT VANCOUVER I see me! Repre ... 12:06 AM

If they talked physiology and efficacy without cussing it would be a 20 minute cert with Nicole beating some duffas at OH squats being 10 of those minutes.

In this thread one guy, a professional wrestler, wants to combine CFSB (SB=strength bias) with CFE (E=Endurance)

One guy sort of does it already and does
CFSB + Metcon in the AM
and CFE + DT (don't know what that means) in the PM. So only 4 workouts a day.

The wrestler decides to schedule it this way.
Day 1: CFE
Day 2: WOD + CFSB (no heavy metcon)
Day 3: WOD + CFSB (no heavy metcon)
Day 4: WOD + CFE
Day 5: CFE
Day 6: WOD + CFSB (no heavy metcon)
Day 7: WOD + CFSB (no heavy metcon)

The next week (still no heavy metcons)...

Day 1: WOD + CFE
Day 2: CFSB
Day 3: WOD + CFSB
Day 4: WOD + CFE
Day 5: WOD + CFE
Day 6: CFSB
Day 7: WOD + CFSB

This is next to, but is NOT the thread titled "overtraining."

The testing process was run all day Saturday and through Sunday morning. No one was forced to give a sample at any time. Competitors were simply told that they needed to give a sample during the weekend.

There was a station inside the competitor area where staff were available to the competitors as they felt capable or had the time to give a sample. Through the compliance and thoughtfulness of the competitors the testing process was secured at about 1230 on Sunday.
Hmm. Sounds rigorous.

This is CrossFit, it will evolve, I can't wait to see where it takes us.

Cam
It will take you into decent training, which has basically nothing to do with "Cultfit" at all except to the extent that you arrogant dumbfucks mistakenly equate "metcon" or "conditioning" with Cultfit.

Well at least they're starting to discuss steroids in Crossfit. LoL
As far as anabolics and Crossfit goes, Dave said he wouldn’t know what to recommend because CrossFit is so diverse.

What a bunch of sanctimonious cunts.

I'm amazed at how kool-aid drunk some of them are. "This is not the @F way," "@Fers are better than this," etc. To them, @F is not only the best workout, but the best philosophy of life. This is Gin Buddhism.

The tripartite levels of cuntiness, stupidity and gullibility in that comment thread are staggering, even by @fit standards.

What makes me snicker is the grotesque misunderstanding about gene therapy and how it's going to revolutionize athletics. Fucking retarded.
