And I'm also pretty sure it's a "she". Then again, the differences between "he" and "she" in CrossFit culture are a lot more subtle than with us non-elite folk, so I could be mistaken.

@F has now shown that they are trying to weed out the non-elite by making the Gaymes $100 to enter JUST THE REGIONALS, with a $50 per day spectator fee!

This is a reply to both you Joshua and Jenny, I would just like to say that for the record, I have a degree in Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration as well as almost a decade worth of professional experience facilitating sporting events of this nature. I helped to run the Vail Budweiser Pro Mountain Bike series, several pro/am trail running series, various public and private rec centers, organized soccer, rugby and lacrosse tournaments and have been on the administrative staff for the UCI Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships. I know very well what kind of costs are incurred in staging these events and if you have competitors paying $100 and spectators $50 for a two day event as small and low cost as a sectional then you are making A LOT of money. Staging an event like the world mountain bike trials or the LA marathon costs millions of dollars and requires a massive staff to deal with the logistics of securing permits, insurance, concessions, sponsors, TV deals, facilities, merchandise, timing, route planning, construction, etc.
Now, last year's Crossfit Games appeared to be very well run, they nailed everything as far as I could tell but, as far as events go, it wasn't that big and it probably didn't cost that much to facilitate (relatively speaking, I wouldn't want to pay it out of pocket!.) It was a weekend event with a rented jumbo tron on private (essentially owner owned facilities) with basic chip timing for one event, 150 athletes and about 3,000 spectators, a couple paid people and a lot of volunteers. Well, I have run sports tournaments and races bigger than that plenty of times at less cost per athlete and at no charge to spectators.
Now, having said that, if Crossfit wants to charge those rates, hey, that's their prerogative. This is America and they're a business. I just think it would be nice if they didn't squeeze us quite so hard.

I believe this is @F's deranged attempts at natural selection--they are making it such that only the most hardcore Kool-Aid drinkers (the ones who believe @FHQ can never do wrong) with the most money ($50 t-shirts, $50 day passes to the Gaymes) will stick around.

Can you say class action RRG lawsuit? Gary, you need to talk to your legally interested buddy and have them get some more people in the mix...maybe angry @Fers should contact you through the board?

How in the hell could they lose so much money? They had sponsors. Free venue. Nearly all volunteer staff. Charged for parking. Entry fees, spectator fees. Even if their losses were mainly in buying equipment, that has all been bought now.

This is yet another dumb move on their part, aggravating and excluding their cult-munity with exorbitant retribution admission is only going to fuel the mutinies.

Given the level of professionalism and competence of the people in question, it's entirely possible that they lost it through stupidity. Either that or it just vanished down the rabbit hole the way the RRG funds appeared to.

I guess the singles are at 85%-90% 1rm. It would take me a couple weeks to figure out what weight to use for 30 reps in the last set of 6.

If I attempted this I'm guessing I'd either be crippled or wouldn't have broken a sweat (preferable), but most likely the former. What book did they steal this from? I'm stymied.

1" Nominal PVC = .32 lb/ft
.32lb/ft * 6ft = 1.92lb

where are you hearing is from?
seems more likely they just threw that number out there to justify charging money to spectate
easier to get people to pay if they think they are supporting the community (i.e. 'we need 300k to break even') , rather than Couch's gin tab.

Maybe some Hollywood movie producers did the accounting for the Gaymes.

I can't remember his name, but a former NHL team owner once quipped "I'm an accountant by trade, I can show you a profit or a loss on the books depending on what I want you to see."
