If you already know, do you really need a formal introduction to evaluate me by or are you just hitting on me? Would you prefer to have me say that, like most guts here, I haven't really done CrossFit workouts on a consistent basis, which makes me uniquely qualified to rip on them or would you prefer to have me tell you my star sign and the kind of wine I prefer by candlelight?friedquads wrote:Yeah, we know. In either case, I am just passing through - this site came up in a search for CF Geneseo.

Another thing that is obviously unique to @fit. Posting 1/4 ROM "feats of strength and skill" and claiming them complete. As witnessed by this clown claiming to "nail" a 64" box jump.

Re: The couch thread
I was speaking with an IGx'er offline about this subject. Can @F be blamed for this incident? Not specifically, but...
Many types of exercise, done to excess, can cause vomiting. Pretty much the same holds true for tearing calluses and rhabdo, if taken far enough. We all know this cult-munity celebrates torn calluses and vomiting, along with joking about "Uncle Rhabdo". These things happen often enough that they are discussed regularly on the injury forum and have devoted @FJ articles. To me, that would mean their risk is higher than other forms of exercise.
Why should it be necessarily different for an AA dissection, when it would seem that one's risk for the problem would increase with the intensity of exercise, just like the rest of the things I listed?
@F loves their "intensity". That will have fallout.

Re: The couch thread
The reality is that, if it wasn't this poor lady, it would have been someone else eventually. It's not at all unheard of for people to have heart failure at the gym, and statistically, the bigger they've grown the pool of affiliates, the greater the likelihood that someone, somewhere was going to keel over in the middle of the WOD.
The difference here, is that @fit has fuck-all for risk management, no real quality assurance for their trainers, they by their own admission are uninsurable, and they've got a culture that revels in suffering and hurt as a badge of honor. All that together is a veritable banquet for personal injury lawyers, and you can almost hear them sharpening their knives.

Credit where it's due. @Fitter or not, that's a big jump. As far as I know there's no such thing as an "official" box jump standard like there is with a snatch or a bench.Yes I Have Balls wrote:Another thing that is obviously unique to @fit. Holy shit! I shock myself sometimes. Here's ANOTHER example of shitty ROM passed off as quality, and when a decent L2 trainer points it out the rest of the sheep crack back.
Laughable

I'm all for the 80% rule, but I don't think anywhere near 80% of the squats reached hip extension, or the pull-ups over the horizontal plane of the bar. I'd ask about the push-ups, too, but I'm guilty of smacking my stomach instead of my chest to the ground when I get tired, too.
The quality of the video was fantastic. My quarrel is the positive light it sheds on a Level 2 trainer's movement, which likely would have been held suspect by any number of judges at many of the competitions we are watching unfold on the Games site.
Form must give way to intensity at our limits. I understand that. I teach that. I just miss CrossFit HQ adding subtitles admitting failed reps, etc in their videos - those not only hold the athletes accountable, but teach countless viewers about the movements and what they should look like.
