From the Twitter:
Folks, this is coming from a 25 yard swim test.
If you do not look comfortable in the water, or if you swim with your head out of the water, for 25 yards, then you CAN NOT SWIM.
Everyone can swim.

Re: The couch thread
Who here thinks the swim was intended as a weasely (and slightly racist) attempt to weed Kris out of the Gaymes on Day 1? Looks like that's going to backfire. They may have to pull a Tonya Harding, or maybe even a T-1000 on her.kreator wrote:From the Twitter:

Interesting thought. Don't know what it's like on the West coast but where I am, Asians dominate the swimming lanes.WildGorillaMan wrote:Who here thinks the swim was intended as a weasely (and slightly racist) attempt to weed Kris out of the Gaymes on Day 1? Re: The couch thread
whities dominate swimming on the west coast, bro. and at the nationals level. you gotta get down to average/low D-1 before you see many chinamen. kinnalike how the mediocre D-1 basketball teams have the occasional mexican or even asian, but you never see 'em at the just-below-NBA level. fuck you even see nips and chinks doing okay on college track teams sometimes.kreator wrote: Interesting thought. the swimming looks like just another stupid gimmick, like when they fucking hammered spikes into the ground. all y'all give 'em too much credit with the conspiracy theories and shit.

Re: The couch thread
The video of some of the non-swimming @Fers doing a 210m ocean swim in the first event will be hilarious.
Having to do a swim test actually shows how un-well-rounded the @Fers are for the most part.

Re: The couch thread
Hilarious how?? They utilize a methodology that expressly and ineluctably trains them for the unknowable with maximum efficiency. And they can do what you do almost as good as you do. You can't do what they do at all.Captain Quack wrote:The video of some of the non-swimming @Fers doing a 210m ocean swim in the first event will be hilarious.

They should have waterpolo for the team competition. Last team with a person still living wins.Yes I Have Balls wrote:Throw a couple reef sharks in the pool for added amusement
The swim test was for HQ, not the exercisers. They wanted to see if they could implement a swimming WAD in next year's Gaymes without being embarrassed. With Rich Froning swimming like a Newfoundland, I think it's safe to say they'll stay on the land.

If you just looked at nothing but that first day's events, you'd have to agree it's a ball buster and legit test of your fitness. That is if you looked at nothing but that first day in a vacuum. When you consider that (a) Crossfit's methodology is still completely fucking retarded, (b) the participants will bastardize the pullups, etc, (c) the participants competed by video to get there, and (d) the whole thing is a giant moneymaking scheme, you have to conclude it's extremely retarded.
I would like to see a 405 squat and deadlift for reps on day 2. That would be a strong 2 day test.

This is where it will probably fall apart.protobuilder wrote:

The first day's challenge looks great as a test of endurance and strength-endurance.
The maximal strength part is missing, as are jumps and throws...

Now look. I've eaten a pice of pie.
When we spin the pie again, the area cut out of the volume of the sphere equals fitness.

Re: The couch thread
The whole thing is likely to be a metcon orgy. The programming is retarded, the gaymes have become even more retarded towards "metcon specialists", since that's the only thing @Fers are good at.protobuilder wrote:If you just looked at nothing but that first day's events, you'd have to agree it's a ball buster and legit test of your fitness. I'd be amazed if there's anything like a 1RM max on any lift contested in real "strength sports"...ie. the thruster ladder event instead of the @F Total.
@Fers would hate to have to debate with others that actually have measureable and repeatable competitions.

Other definitions could apply with the @F STD crew, but will likely not make it onto "The Ocho's" streaming broadcast.Orgy: Excessive indulgence in a specified activity.

210 meter swim? That use to be MY warm-up when I trained in triathlon a few years ago. Someone call the Coast Guard and alert them of the massive amounts of drowning douchebags in the ocean.
And I am laughing at the comments on the @Fit gheymes site. It's obvious that none of them have any experience with open-water ocean swims. They're not the same as a pool and it is fucking hard to see and learning how to swim in current is very different than swimming in a pool. A triathlon swim-start is painful as hell due to everyone swimming on top of each other and kicking/slapping each other in order to gain position in the water. This event's swim-start is going to end up having people getting knocked-out cold.

I ain't gonna bullshit. I can't swim for shit. Actually I can swim but I sink like a rock and so I am afraid of open water. I'd love to do a tri but I have to get some serious swim training first.

Re: The couch thread
Also, talk about a great way to shred some people the first day. The swim is dumb enough. Add 3000m of beach sand (POSE, of course!) running to people who only ever train on concrete will be a perfect way to set up some Achilles blowouts with box jumps on the following days. This will be epic.

This is obviously.I was a newbie CrossFitter, but I wasn’t new to training and – most importantly – I wasn’t new to effective training.
