Re: The couch thread
Cue @Bok coming out with a force plate with a bullseye on it...every gym must have one!!! Only $5000 through the @FHQBok store!
Re: The couch thread
Am I to understand from what Couch said that a ball thrown at the ground with force will not hit the ground any faster than a ball dropped?

Re: The couch thread
You have to understand that physics isn't couch's strong point. It was Abby's handing couch a plate full of his ass over couch saying the KB swing does not develop the same hip opening power as a clean of equal weight moved an equal distance that started this whole thread.Beer Jew wrote:Am I to understand from what Couch said that a ball thrown at the ground with force will not hit the ground any faster than a ball dropped?
I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor's dog.

Re: The couch thread
Don't you know anything? A ball simply dropped onto the ground moves at the same speed as a ball thrown down really hard, assuming there is no force plate. But if you add a force plate, the thrown ball will move much faster. It is obviously that the force plate creates this speed, thus making it impossible to get positive metabolic benefits from a plateless slam ball workout.Beer Jew wrote:Am I to understand from what Couch said that a ball thrown at the ground with force will not hit the ground any faster than a ball dropped?
The target is a revolutionary idea. Initial @bok studies observed that 17% of @Fers who threw a ball at the ground actually missed. Not only did the added target cut that number down to 12%, it also made the workout even more functional. What if there is a zombie fire ant outbreak and all you have is a slam ball? What if you are playing Whack-a-Mole and the Mexican kid before you stole the mallet? How will you get your tickets? Answer me.

Au contraire...Dog_Ba's assertion was that a kb snatch developed the same forces at the hip joint that the barbell snatch did.It was Abby's handing couch a plate full of his ass over couch saying the KB swing does not develop the same hip opening power as a clean of equal weight moved an equal distance that started this whole thread.
The kb snatch does NOT develop the same forces at the hip joint that the barbell snatch does, even if you go out on a limb and equalized the load and pull the kb off the floor. When you take into consideration the dramatic difference in load that a barbell vs db or kb has, and that the specifics of the barbell snatch as a movement has significant requirements for explosive strength vs the pendulum nature of the regular kb snatch, it pans out that couch was right and abby was wrong.
So, basically couch has a stronger understanding of biomechanics as related to human movement than abby.
Truth.

Re: The couch thread
We don't have the tools to "quantify" the sledgehammer & bell gizmo at the county fair?
Isn't it if the bell rings, you win, and if it doesn't, you're a pussy?
I guess that's not complex enough. It doesn't account for the 4th dimension of fitness that Couch inverted on its axis.

So here we're going, we're talking about primal fitness, the ability to accomplish some task of life. And uh, do you think there's anything that we can do from a Crossfit standpoint, from mainsite WOD to journal articles, to, perhaps, improve folks' ability with a hammer, with a sledge hammer?
Really? Really!?
Really? Really!?

Re: The couch thread
The "problem" with hammer and slam ball work is that the @fiy assholes fuck everything up by making a simple workout into a contest/sport. Pick up a heavy ball and slam it down as hard as you fucking can until you almost puke...now drag something heavy across the ground untill your legs and lungs burn. Rest until you can see straight and do it again and again. Keep doing shit like this and the next time you have to do something real you won't be such a pussy and you will get calls from friends to help them move heavy shit. An aside though..couch looking leanish and almost healthy..zone or rehab?
