Also, odd to say "movements most men can't do". Movements?! That made it sound like this video was going to show her doing the splits or something. And I can certainly, uh, put down a deadlift, which she apparently can't.

I don't think the @fit games are saving shit, except orthopedic surgeons from bankruptcy.
I do think there are a lot of legitimately good @fit gyms that promote sound S&C programs, and that expose a large number of people to both Oly and PL that wouldn't be exposed otherwise. If you can think of a gym near you where you can even perform a C&J or snatch, I can nearly guarantee you it's a crossfit affiliate.
I bet if you go to a local Oly meet that over half of the participants will be from @fit boxes. And of those a few of them will decide they like Oly much more than pukie, and specialize in Oly.

Re: The couch thread
Decent article from the OPT camp......except that the guy has to waste 2-3 paragraphs acting as an apologist and claiming status as a "non-hater". Although he still fears repercussions from HQ;

Many people in our community will quest to aggressively defend Crossfit against any criticism, including the constructive variety. I know I will be setting myself up for ridicule, counter arguments, challenging opinions, and potentially public slander.
Lots of writing addressing points in an article on @fit coaching then the conclusion;I want to caution those of you who love this sport not to confuse my criticism with hatred......My article is a plea to think critically to ensure that our community is always progressing and continues to be the best it can be. I do worry that much of what I propose will be ignored due to the fact that I work for a company that Crossfit claims is not “in line” with their philosophies and methodologies. I suppose I write to you as an “outside agitator.”
I can almost hear the Russells warming up..........I would like the staff at HQ (who might be reading this) to be able to see it for what it is, genuine love and concern, and not for what some may interpret it to be, a negative attack. I would love it if four other major things were to happen as well. First, to create some sort of a public explanation that doesn’t include slander to explain why so many experts in their respective fields have been ousted from the community. What sort of views were not in line with each specifically who is no longer “in the community?” People need to be able to make informed decisions for themselves concerning who has ideas more in line with what they need or believe. I’ve found from my conversations with many of those exiled people that they continue to use much of the training, and also train many of the athletes in the sport. So, why is there animosity and what was the cause? Second, I think an explanation as to why it is not publicly encouraged of the affiliates to pursue outside sources of continuing education. I know many of the HQ staff search outside the community for reading and education, but new affiliate owners are not required to do so. My personal belief is that the 2-day certification should not be the only prerequisite to open a gym in order to capitalize on the brand name’s growth. As well, perhaps, some sort of requirement of continued learning to maintain the certification. I am very supportive of the continuing education courses offered by Crossfit, but I feel there are some gaps for people who want to become master coaches. Some topics could include nutritional biochemistry, basic endocrinology, principles of exercise physiology, alternative strength and conditioning models, long-term athletic development, biomechanics of lifting (and movement), anatomy, etc. I believe that if Crossfit is going to continue to support their rapid growth rate, they either need to re-invest in their coaches through a system of advanced education for people wanting it, or demand that if you open a NEW affiliate you have some further higher-level understanding beyond just the weekend certification. This would still allow for a high level of attendance in the courses, because the level 1 certification could be used for coaches of classes but the owners of the affiliates and the program designers of the gym should have understanding of why they are doing what they are doing. Third, I would like them to encourage the public to have their own definitions of fitness. I’m not sure where this pervasive mentality of hate came from that leads some affiliates to post negative comments about other sports, other beliefs, etc, but it is damaging and makes the institution lose credibility. I feel that our community can still grow and learn if we are supportive of the aesthetics of other sports, the dedication and beauty of specific elite performances, and not be derogatory towards people who choose to abide by a different definition of fitness and different training methodologies. Even if we as a community stand by our definition, it is not a sin to support other people to find their own. And lastly, I would love to have some sort of open dialogue or explanation of the Crossfit Games workout designs. I coach many athletes in the sport and love the growth and the publicity of the sport, but find that the design of the workouts is not directly in line with finding the “fittest” according to their own definition. I understand that there is a component of pleasing the crowd and creating buzz, but think that keeping that task in the hands of a few will create problems. My belief is that there should be an overall sport governing body to ensure that the purity of the original definition of fitness is maintained through the quality of the tests.

What part of "The market will fix it" does OPT not understand? Is he afraid to compete with new affiliates?! Doesn't he understand the economic genius of Greg Glassman and the Russells?

Re: The couch thread
His post was inspired by this glorious shitshow of an article:
You're in real life, and CrossFit will hurt. Three years ago, I would have hidden that truth. Now, I think CrossFit's ability to hurt is also its most commendable quality.
...
Amy taught me what I should have told her from the beginning. "Welcome to Practice CrossFit. It's going to hurt."
Perhaps then Amy’s minor injury wouldn't have jarred her. Most people that walk into my box, like Amy, have no athletic background. They've spent their life sick - eating poorly and rarely exercising - and know discomfort but not pain. And they'll do anything to avoid pain. Everyone, from our parents to our doctors, has told us pain is bad.
But as I've learned, a pain-free life isn't necessarily a good one. My dad died at 59, fat and alone, and he avoided and medicated his pain away. Because of CrossFit, I'm fit and surrounded by true friends. And each day I endure pain in the WOD, and occasionally get hurt or injured, but I accept it as the price for this life.
To this day, after six years of constantly CrossFitting, I still get butterflies every time I workout. I don’t get them from imminent bliss - I get them from inevitable pain. Pain I choose to endure, risk I choose to take for the tremendous reward to follow. Rewards that look like chiseled abs and massive shoulders on the outside. Inside, my rewards feel like knowing I will become nothing like my father, nothing like those who do their best to avoid all forms of challenging and rewarding pain.
I failed Amy and others like her by not making them aware of the potential CrossFit brings for injury and pain. I did not prepare her for that day of reckoning, when she would be given the choice many of us will face: fight or give up. Either option will hurt. One is brief, now and on your terms. The other is chronic, an unwelcomed surprise that may never go away.
Amy’s month off turned into many months of mental reassurance that I believe could have been eliminated if I would have given her the common knowledge that keeps me moving no matter how much it hurts to do so: It’s CrossFit and not doing it is going to hurt much more than doing it ever will. . . .

We're just moments away from the first @fit zumba and @fit curves.Reebok's New, Massive CrossFit Gym Is On Another Level
The CrossFit craze is in full swing. Favored by Jack Osbourne and SoulCycle fiend Max Greenfield, new studios catering to the high-intensity workout have been popping up all over town. The latest is Reebok CrossFit LAB, which just opened on Melrose.
Located one block east of La Cienega, the whopping 5,000-square-foot space features both a private training studio and a group class studio equipped with EFx endurance classes and yoga. In addition to boasting owners with a combined 60+ years of training experience, Reebok's gym is the only CrossFit box in Southern California with a treadmill training studio.
