Multiple outlets and law enforcement officials are reporting what a horrific looking scene makes clear: The headquarters at the Boston Marathon have been locked down after two explosions were reported near the downtown finish line mid-Monday afternoon, near the Boston Library. Boston police confirmed that there were two explosions — and casualties — but were not saying who or what might be responsible. "There were two booms heard from near the finish line inside the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel," reports the AP. Here's one of many images flowing in from social media current scene there:

2 dead, 22 injured per Boston PD. Given the huge number of people there, this will hopefully give some folks some peace of mind until cell phone calls can get through.

The footage of the initial blast is nuts. One runner went down pretty quick.

Mass General has no reported deaths, 19 patients, 6 critial, 5 serious, 8 with unspecified injuries.

News conference coming up outside that particular hospital.

Counter terrorism expert on NBC said he's sure it's a terrorist attack.

Others on the newscast are saying it's premature to try and put blame on any person or group. Not sure how anyone could think it was anything other than a bombing.

There are secondary devices reported aren't there?? That surely removes any doubt as to the nature of this??

That's good news Koko. Hope everyone else in Boston, or with family there, is safe. This is horrific.

Word on Twitter is that there may be a suspect identified, under guard at a hospital. Nothing noted on the news telecast yet.

CBS local affiliate reporting surveillance video of a man dropping backpacks into trashcans. Sorry no link, tv on in other room.
Also reporting unexploded device was found under grandstand at finish line.
