Re: Presidential Debates
If you think the ugliness of Trump will be gone after the election, hold onto your seat. There's a constituency there and someone will tap into that in 2020. I think 2020 starts on November 9.

Re: Presidential Debates
Also, last night I worked a small dinner for Goldman Sachs where they were discussing their forecast for the election.
Hillary wins easily, dems take the senate, house stays republican with a loss of about 15 seats.
Seven moderate dem senators are up in two years and they have to act like republicans to keep those seats (this includes Kaine's replacement).
Bernie and Warren are going to be players, so, no, Larry Summers won't be doing anything this time around.

The "moderate Democrat" requires you to assume that she's lying about most of her domestic platform, which I hope she is. She's running well to the left of the better Clinton. Despite her reputation as a "policy wonk", she's picked a feminist econ wacko with zero mainstream publications to lead her transition team, and she has a history of supporting crazy labor market policies.
and donald's economic advisers? a distinguished group or magical thinking tax cutters?

My point is that the belief that she's a moderate requires that you ignore much of what she's been saying, including some of her longstanding positions, and ignore some of the people she's surrounded herself with.

Re: Presidential Debates
Hillary's achievements:
1. As First Lady, she was in charge of health care reform. As a result of her work, in 1994 the Republicans took control of the House of Representatives for the first time since the Great Depression.
2. Beat a two term congressman hardly anybody had ever heard of, and who entered the race late and without money, to become Senator from a never she never even lived in.
3. Freed Libya.

Re: Presidential Debates
Dan Carlin says something to the effect of "great men are usually great because of the horrible things they do". For example: ghengis kahn, alexander the great, napoleon
The Donald is not a great man. He just does horrible things. Yeah, kennedy and johnson were rabid pussy chasers. And i would not want them anywhere near my daughter. I dont think donald is anywhere near capable if doing anything remotely good. He lacks experience, he has no discernible plan, letting him loose on our economy abd foreign policy would be like setting a fox lose in the hen house. If the fox was a dumb asshole.
Conclusion: being a grabby asshole does not mean you are like kennedy or johnson. You just share a deplorable hobby. Albert einstein was also a bit if a rabid pussy chaser but that doesnt mean donald is capable designing a nuclear bomb.

Re: Presidential Debates
Again, true. I'll be honest, none of that really bothered me other than that just ewww factor of imagining it happening. In fact, I don't really care what Michael Moore has to say about trump either. Trump has given us plenty of reasons to doubt his qualifications all on his own. No bombshells required.johno wrote:True. Re: Presidential Debates
So what exactly is "hunching" anyway?
"He came in [to the editing room] behind me, started hunching me to the point that he had an orgasm," she told Breitbart's Aaron Klein. "He’s touching, trying to touch my breasts and I’m just sitting there very stiffly, just waiting for him to leave me alone. And I’m asking him the whole time, 'Please do not do this. Do not touch me. Do not hunch me. I do not want this.' And he finished doing what he was doing and walked out.

Which brings us back to Terry's question.
Is there anything for Hillary except "not-Trump?" All I can muster is that PERHAPS* she's less likely than Donald to start WWIII.TerryB wrote:How come I never see Hillary supporters posting about her accomplishments or tangible leadership achievements?
*HYUGE doubts in light of her failures in Iraq, Egypt, Libya, and Syria. And her failed "reset" with Russia.
I also think the Iran nuclear deal was a failure, but we'll see what develops.
Oh, and her leaving top level national secrets unprotected. The intel equivalent of leaving the Nuclear Football at a DC bus stop for a few years.

Re: Presidential Debates
fair question.
i think a lot of tea party types and conservative christians are loopy, definitely hostile to science and given to conspiracy theories, i.e. birtherism. their efforts to limit voting is openly racist.
i don't want to reward those attitudes.
and climate change is real and needs addressing.
as for the middle east--a shitstorm, and no, neither party has gotten it right, although what that would have been, who knows.. too early to make a judgment on the iran deal, but negotiating makes sense to me.
for all the bullshit about sex and walls and emails, it looks like this election is splitting along r & d lines, with a lot of unenthusiastic d's, and the r's losing people because of trump's racism, misogyny, and all-purpose craziness. he's a parody of a white alpha male, but white males seem drawn to his barking.
the dems may have fucked up, but the r's fucked up bigly, so bigly, so stupid, retarded, the bigliest. small hands and a fox pelt. such a loser.
